How do you remove the through bolt on the motor mount? the bolt that holds the motor to the mount is in the way of the through bolt's lip and the head of the through bolt is in the way of the motor bolt.

read again.... he obviously can't remove either... sorry i have no answer for you. i'm changing motor mounts in a couple days too so hopefully someone chimes in.

I'm sure somebody on here has taken there LT1 out or lifted it at some point and it's hard for me to believe that nobody has had this issue but maybe I am the only person who experienced this... i hope my mounts aren't shot.

You have to displace the weight of the engine onto a jack. Once you do that then the bolt will slide right out.

speaking of lifting it.. lift it!! wouldn't this spread the bolts farther apart to let 1 slide past the other? just a thought. I have no idea

Hmmmmm... if they're sagging that much, how about using a jack to push one side up a little- or a piece of 2x4 wedged between the floor & the side of the block; tap it with a hammer to wedge it and lift one side of the engine maybe 1/2- 3/4"?

Last pair I did was pulling the engine in my current project. They came out pretty easy with a socket on one end, closed end of a combo wrench on the other side. Think it was socket front, wrench on back. Has resistance almost all the way, but it comes off. You can tap out the through bolt with a socket extension, with a little upward lifting force on the engine. A hoist is best for this, but a jack will do if you're careful and have an extra pair of hands.

I have it displaced on the jack and the pin slides out about hafl an in until it hits the other bolt...

GOT IT! i had to play with the jack a bit and slide the bolt back and forth a few times nbd

One other thing to remember, if you can't find the sweet spot with the motor jacked and the bolt free, just start twisting on the bolt and it will thread itself out.

If I remember correctly I think I removed the bolts on the block then lifted the motor enough to give me clearance... if not the other way around there is nothing easy in these cars!

I think I remember what he is talking about but the rubber in my driver side motor mount was crushed and the one on the block saged in the way of the long bolt that joins the two halfs. Time to change them.
