Default Transmission help

I have a 2009 5.3 GEN IV and I need a trans. I want to keep fuel injection, but if I can't figure out this electronic transmission stuff, I'm going carb.

It's my understanding the GEN IV uses a E38 ECM that only controls the motor. The newer trans are controled by their own computer. I have found a rebuilt 2004 4L60 that was behind a 5.3 that's within budget.

How can I get this trans to work with my GEN IV motor?
Will I need the ECM out of the 2004 vehicle?
Or can I get a later model (2009) trans computer to make it work?

I've searched, but I can't find an answer.

I believe TCI makes a 4l60e controller to make it work. Or maybe you can find a manual valve body and you can control it.

Thanks. yeah, I've seen the aftermarket trans controllers. But..the cheapest I've seen is $599.00. That plus the amount I have budgeted for my trans, I can go by a 2009 transmission. I'm just trying to do this with junkyard parts.

If your going carb save your money and buy a 700r4, it will bolt right to the motor with the right parts. Then hook the TV cable to the carb.

That's my plans if I can't find a compatible 4l60. All this is going in a 1953 Chevy 210 hardtop. I'm leaning toward the carb and 700r4 for ease of getting it installed.

Would a 4l80e fit? If so I know there is a company that makes the full manual valve bodies for those.

The 4l60/80e won't work with out a stock TCM and ECM for the Gen IV motor. Or an aftermarket standalone kit.

Do you have the harness for the motor? If so all you really need is the TCM and harness to the trans. And the manual valvebodys are a pain in the *** if you plan on driving it everyday as you'll have to shift it yourself.

I would keep the fuel injection.

Yeah, I have the harness. The motor was a pullout with harness, ECM, intake, and DBW throttle. I would like to use the 2004 4l60 I found. The guy only want's $500.00 bucks for it. And it's been rebuilt. So if I had the ECM for the 2004 motor, would that let me run the 4l60 behind the GEN IV 5.3? Or would a 2009 TCM module run the 2004 4L60?

The 2004's used a PCM in which the engine computer controlled the trans as well. That won't work with your motor.

Your motor is a Gen IV with a ECM and TCM. I believe IIR you can use the 4l60 with the right TCM tune. The only problem being the front speed senor isn't present in the 4l60. All the 2009 were 4l70 by then and had a fwd input VSS. So double check that it will work. Ask in the trans section.

I don't think you can control an older 4l60e with a new tcm. The newer trans has an input speed sensor and the older ones just used rpm since the pcm controlled both. I would just get a newer trans and use it with a tcm and efi.

What about a 2007 4l60 out a V6 Silverado classic truck? I've read the flywheel on the v6 is different. But I have the original flywheel on my 2009 5.3.
