True duals or is it a Y-pipe?
The C6 corvette (true duals) has a stock muffler with a 2.5" muffler intake. When doing headers many go with 3" mid-pipe. I have not seen any aftermarket mufflers proving consistently higher HP by going with a 3" muffler intake opening.
If your system forms a Y and uses a single intermediate pipe and opens back to dual mufflers, I'd believe there is power to be gained from the I-pipe as it was well proven on the F-body that moving up to 3" and 3.5" on big builds was helpful.
