Default Cost of building a 408ci 6.0L

I was wondering what the rough cost of building a 6.0L stroked to a 408 would cost. I wanted to build one to 450-470rwhp. My current stock LS1 has 155k. How do you guys who have done this fund this kind of project as to sometime soon it has to be done. Do you guys save money or what? Might be a stupid question, but I just want to know. I know I could sell my current LS1 to help fund. Any advice appreciated. No negative comments please.

just off the top of my head i have lined up about a 4k list of parts to do my stroked 408...and its not my DD so i just spend the extra cash for parts when it comes up...im doing it carbed too so that cut some of the cost down

I figured about 8-10k. Plus the springs in the front for the extra weight of the iron block. Also a new k member.

A lot of it will depend on the top end. A big percentage of the cost is the heads and intake if you go all out.

Depends on what you already have and are gonna reuse. If you decide to upgrade heads, intake/TB, injectors, MAF, fuel pump etc... it can add up quickly...Figure roughly 4k for a forged shortblock and go from there....

What route would you guys best suggest. Buy a bare block and build it yourself, or buy a short block or long block and then just put choice of heads and intake on and so forth. What about the the route of buying a turn key 408ci motor from a sponsor. For example TSP?

You gotta be willing to invest in a proper heads and cam package that will make use of the bottom end and the supporting mods that goes along with it. You can go el'cheapo and do a Iron Block and in your case, you may just have to. Unless you can score a good rebuildable block off a wrecked truck on craigslist.

Depends on if and how much boost you ever run iron block may be the best way to go and we all know it's like a drug we all want more once hooked

Yes, I am wanting to put a magnacharger or procharger on it in the future. I have already made my mind up on that and will go with an iron block for sure.
