new 383
Ok, after almost a year of collecting parts to build a new engine for my completely stock 01 Trans Am, I finally saw the fruits of my labor today. I put together a 383 LS6 stroker with LS6 heads (2.5 port), Fast 90/90 (intake ported and matched), 234/239 598/605 114 +1 cam, QTP headers and Kooks true duals (worked like a charm with the QTPs with minimal mods). Started it last night and took it to get tuned today. On a Mustang dyno, the 1st pull was 442, second was 453 with more timing, and the third was 485 with more timing. I was pleased since he had the exact same combo in a vette earlier in the week that came in at 420.
The Kooks exhaust sounds awesome although they are a bit loud for my taste. I might add some cats or resonators at some point but it looks great and apparently performs based on the numbers. I took the car for a spin after the tune and it has some serious get you sideways in a hurry power. I like it. :-)

471/467 with my 383 AFR 205 heads, LS6 intake, stock TB, 238/240 cam through a 10 bolt. plan on losing some through a new 9 inch, but also look to bring the numbers back up with a 90/90 combo. enjoy the car

And this is why I think the 383 fwiw is the ultimate budget/STREET/strip motor. With a cam that is in the high 230's low 240's duration and .610-.630 lift with a good set of aftermarket heads or cnc'd 243's you can make almost 500rwhp or 500rwhp with 470+rwtq. Now that my friends makes for one fun ride that will idle, cruise with the a/c on and then go run a 10.x 1/4 time after bolting the D/R's on and then drive back home with the a/c and tunes on.

Very true. I do wish that my cam was a bit bigger and more aggressive. Driveability was a concern @ the time and unfortunately now it is money. Down the road I may decide to change the cam and get some better heads to obtain my goal of 500/480 N/A.
For now the Nitrous is being readied and should make it more of an animal than it already is.

Stroked 383 here, trickflow 215's Kooks 1 7/8's Fast 102 with 96mm TB, and a tiny baby cam because I have a stock converter with an RPM level 5! I put down 453 and 456 on a dynojet. I ran a 12.08 on street tires with a 1.9 60' spinning most of the way. I also balloned the converter and broke the flexplate, Car is currently at vengeance doing a 6 speed conversion and putting at least a VRX5 cam in now!!
