Went to atco a few weeks ago and had CaptHuff lend me his drag pack. I ran on Toyo drag radials and GTO spares. When I first got there I had a loose plug and the car was acting strange. Sat around for an hour, maybe two, while people made pass after pass. Finally got everything together and told Pete to get a video. First pass did a nice burnout, launched to a 1.74 60' and had a really clean pass. Got the slip, 11.80@118mph. Got back to the gate and Pete and Marc are nowhere to be found. Went back into the lanes and made a pass, 1.77 60' and missed third. I let out, put the car into fourth, cruised, shifted into 5th around 4500rpm, and eased through the traps. Coasted to a 14.2 at 90 some mph and still beat a honda by about 20 car lengths. Found pete and he asked me what happened. I asked if he saw my first pass and he said no.. hahaha. Anyways I made the one botched pass at low 14's, two passes in the 11.90's, and two passes in the 11.80's. Track prep was OK. Heres the breakdown.
RT .966
60' 1.744
330' 4.975
1/8 7.622
MPH 92.70
1000 9.891
1/4 11.806
MPH 117.91
Mods: Vararam, ported stock TB, LS6 intake, XSPower headers w/ORX, Granatelli catback, RPM Stage IV trans, Spec Twin clutch, RPM Stage II rear w/3.90 gears, ECS brace, dyno tuning.

Wow, that mph is impressive for stock heads and cam. Shows what a Vette can do with a proper launch. Are you running c5z gearing in that trans or m6?

no stock coupe gearing in the trans

dumb ass question, would putting the headlights down help? LOL

Yea I suppose, I always run with them down but forgot to do it on that pass bc I was in a rush.
No love for the little LS1 that could? I think people are forgetting the car is just bolt-ons with stock 853 heads.

Nice video and shifting man.. What was your launch technique? What rpm did u launch at? Slip the clutch or what?

very nice. did it make a big feel in seat of the pants when you put on headers?
Not really. I didn't get a tune right away. Went to the track and ran the same times as pre-headers. Got a tune and dropped 2-3 tenths and gained 4mph. When I took the headers off, sold them, and put the stock manifolds on while waiting for my new headers, the car felt like an absolute TURD. So i'd say yeah, if you do headers/tune at the same time you will DEFINITELY notice it. The first mods that should be done with these cars is vararam/headers/tune. Easy 6 tenth drop and 5-6mph gain. Gears are hands down the biggest SOTP improvement. It felt like a brand new car when I got it back. I bet if I drove a car with identical mods/times but with stock gears, it would feel slower than my car.
Nice video and shifting man.. What was your launch technique? What rpm did u launch at? Slip the clutch or what?
Launch rpm was between 4000 and 4500 rpm. I basically just slipped the spec twin as much as it would let me and get right onto the gas HARD to prevent any bogging. My last run in the video you can hear a slight bog on the launch. I'm very surprised the car still went 11's on that run. When I had stock gears, if I bogged, the pass was always 3-5 tenths slower. With the 3.90's, the car can pick back up into the powerband much quicker, making for less of a difference.

Cool, I am running 4.10's and I have been thinking about a blower at some point in the future. Which kit are you thinking of running

I am going to run the ECS Novi along with a blower cam. Should make 550rwhp on 7-8lbs safely.

Cool, well I am throwing the idea of a blower around, but havent decided yet, I am concerned about the 4.10's and trapping to high and running the motor too high on the big end, what gears are you planning on running

I was gonna just stick with my 3.90's cuz its an RPM diff, but have decided to sell for a stock unit and im gonna do some hardened shafts + I have the ECS brace. I would only be able to hit around 125 with the tire I run in 4th, and that's not gonna be enough. Going with 3.42's and hoping for a 10 second slip at 130+mph.
slowtealz28
04-23-2011, 01:48 PM
the other reason I am going back to 3.42's is because the 3.90's will blow the tires right off. You can see in the video that with just bolt-ons I am spinning tires every gear, I can only imagine what it will be like with an extra 200rwhp. I'm sure that 2nd and 3rd gear will still be a nightmare on street tires. I gotta figure out what I'm gonna run on the street.

Yea thats what I am concerned with I have 4.10's now, I am full bolt on and now trying to decide between H/C/I vs FI, did you consider staying NA or what made you decide FI.

I will try to keep this short as possible but it probably won't happen. Ive been talking with ECS for over a month now. They know my setup and what it runs. Got quotes for many different H/C packages. I am talking everything from stock used 243 heads, to TFS heads. With everything all said and dont, nuts to bolts, pushrods, springs, chain, inj, etc, pricing wad from $4600, to $5000 for prc, to $7000 for TFS. Mike69@ECS said to me for another grand I could do a basic blower kit and make 500 all day. I have ALWAYS wanted a blower, I actually had one from A&A a few years back but lost my job and had to get rid of it.
Here is where things get interesting. With the H/C I will have reached maximum hp, with no possibility of going any higher. I would also need a fast intake/tb so add another $1,000 to the bill. With h/c, you will never see much of that money back. Not many people want used springs/pushrods/etc. With a blower, yeah you spend 6 grand on just the kit, but if you ever need to sell, you can still get back $3500-$4000. You can also always turn up the boost to make more power. With the novi you can reach about 850rwhp before maxing it out. This is what has persuaded me to go blower. ECS has been great along the way, doing everything they possibly can to get a blower on my car. If you have any more questions or wanna discuss why I am going ECS over A&A, gimme a pm. I will personally never do business with A&A ever again, EVER.

Great plan man! That Vette is going to be sick. I was trying to decide whether to go H/C/I or F/I as well, and decided to... just do both lol. So at the moment I have a full H/C/I setup waiting to go on the Vette and then in the future (probably not going to happen for a couple years) I plan on adding in a blower and some meth. ECS are some great guys! Their blower kit's are known to put down impressive numbers. You should throw in their ECS Blower Cam while your at it for a nice little increase! Best of luck man!
