Default I need help now, oil pres. issue

Everytime i get the rpm to about 2,700rpm my oil pressure goes to 0 and comes back after after the rpm drops down. What can it be, open to all ideas, i dont want to lock up my motor.

I ask the obvious questions first. Dose the engine make any odd noises or anything when this happens? If so, I'd say stop driving and replace the oil pump. If not (and this is the most likely cause) I would replace the oil pressure sending unit and see what happens. It's near the rear of the engine behind the intake on the drivers side. Sensor should pretty cheap from a parts store.

Talked to dealership, guy was really helpfull, since im not the original owner and dont know the history of the servicing done he said there might be sluge getting stuck on the pickup tube in the screen and blocking it. I think i might drop the pan and inspect myself. What do u all think about that being a reason?

Replace the sensor, it is behind the manifold very close to the firewall.
I think I'm on my 4th sensor at 80k miles.

From the other forum:

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...r-failure.html

In the first post:

"The part number for the sensor/sender is 12616646. GM sells this for about $75. GMPD price, including shipping, was a bit over $50."

I just did mine, but I got a BWD part from the local O'Reilly Auto Parts store. The price from the local store was only slightly less than GM Parts Direct (within $5).

For procedures and diagrams I've always found alldatadiy.com to be very worthwhile. I used it when I built the motor on the mustang in my signature, and there was very little it didn't cover. What it didn't cover was a result of the motor being supercharged, which didn't happen from Ford.

I think its ~$15 for the year, and Pete I am pretty sure it would give you a step by step on replacing the oil pressure sending unit.

Just noticed mine today must have went in the last day or so. 125 psi lol. Rock auto has the sensor for 30 something dollars, figure I'll put mine in the same time as my blower.

Same issue here. Will fix as soon as my car comes back from the dealer (if it's not covered by my 3rd party warranty).

Definitely do it when you are installing the blower, after the blower is on the sensor is a pain in the *** to reach.

I know this has already been resolved, but I had to laugh at this. The fact that your pressure was reading abnormally high, then abruptly dropping to 0, should have been an instantaneous indicator to a competent mechanic/tech that it was a problem with the sending unit. In other words, the guy wasn't really helpful at all, he was steering you down the completely wrong path! (It just so happens that resolving the issue on that path would result in hundreds of dollars in labor charges, as dropping the oil pan on these cars is not at all trivial.)
