Default Which k-member manufacturer and need help with options.

Im looking to lighten up the front end and wanted to do a tubular k-member, but I didnt know which manufacturer was better. I want it to be contructed out of chromoly for more strength and less weight. I didnt see anywhere that the BMR was offered in chromoly, is that an option? The only brands that Im aware of are PA and BMR, are there any other ones? Anyhow, if you could help me to pick the better of the 2 and help me choose the right options, Id really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I'm not sure about anything in chromoly, but I'm presonally going to go with the BMR piece. I have a few BMR pieces on my car at the moment, and I was extremely happy with their fit, finish, and overall quality for the price.

The PA one is nice, and from the one's I've seen, has a better fit for the steering shaft. Only thing is, w/ the PA you have to transfer your motor mounts over from teh stocker, which means you need some nuts to hold them on as the stock K is threaded, while the PA one isn't. The other think we found, you need 4 shorter bolts to hold the K-member into the frame, the 2 in the back can take the stock bolts, but the other 4 need a 12x1.75x45mm bolt.

I have the Pro Fab (PA) also. The additional bolts is not a real problem but would be nice if the size was given.

These pieces sure makes for a lot easier to get to the motor mounts and gives more header clearance. Not to mention that they take 40 pounds off the front end.

I wish the bolts were included... finding good quality metric bolts isn't easy.

you would need like 1" of washers, probably not the best idea.. I may have found a place online that sells the bolts you would need for like 90 cents a pop... I'm double checking that they are correct though, will know on monday probably.

So right off the bat, there has to be modifications done with the PA unit and the piece itself isnt all that you need. Is the BMR unit a bolt in piece that doesnt require you to anything but bolt it up? Also, I wanted to know what I have to choose from, is BMR and PA the only 2 manufactureres that offer a k-member for f-bodies? Is the BMR offered in chromoly? Lastly, if BMR and PA are the only 2, which one should I get? (I want the better of the 2-better fitment, lighter, stronger, more clearance, etc.) Thanks.

I have the BMR and no problems at all. I liked the fact the the motor mount brackets are built into it.

Don't know the weights on the BMR but my Pro Fab K member weighs 18# 1 oz and my A arms 12# 2 ozs. That's pretty light and strong.

I really wouldn't worry about having to round up a couple bolts. Sears Hardward had all that I needed.

nope, won't work... the last 3/4" or so of the stock bolt is just shank, no threads..... it would work fine if it was threaded the entire length.

rack mounts are where the steering rack bolts in place. either stock, or the pinto, is the cheap/easy way to go to a manual rack.

stock is the stock power steeting.. pinto means you are converting to a pinto manual steering rack.
