Default What can I swap over to an LS3?

I just cracked my forged 347 setup and I am wanting to go 416 LS3. I was wondering what I can swap over to the LS3. Can I use the oil pump? timing chain? main studs? head studs?

I am not real familiar with all the new stuff that has came out and am kinda confused as to what i need to make a LS3 fit in my 99 trans am.

Thanks

oil pump yes, timing chain yes, main studs yes, head bolts yes, waterpump yes. More then likely your current cam, heads and intake are to small for a 416 ls3. you will need a harness to extend your cam sensor plug in to the front timing cover and you will need a harness box to convert from 24x to 58x crank trigger.

the LS1 head studs are all the same except for the short ls1 end studs. they are all the same length on the ls2+.Maybe ARP will sell you just the 4

You will need the newer valley cover, lifter trays, front timing cover with cam sensor. The knock sensors need to be relocated to the side of the block. As mentioned above you can buy a harness that extends both the cam sensor and knock sensors. Katech sells one.

I was just trying to get an idea of what it would cost to build a 416. I thinking I am going to get a Iron block for now and just swap parts over.

Yeah that would be a lot more cost effective. You can also throw some ls3 heads and intake on top of the iron block because the bore is large enough.
