Default 85mm ported and polished Throttle body?

I am looking into trading my stock throttle body and $150 for a machined ported and polished stock throttle body. Is this too much?... the guy i plan on trading with says he paid $320 and gave up his stock throttle body for it. It is ported to 85mm and says it can shave .10-.15 off my 1/4 mile time. Anybody ported their throttle body that can share some info with me...and also, Is this too much?

Nope, the guy who ported the TB is a well known racer from my area and has a low 10 sec all motor mustang. He does alot of tuning for LS1's and has worked wonders on a few of my friends cars. I just wanted to get some feedback from people who have done this. He does good work.

It is imposible to get the stock TB to 85mm it will come through the casting. The largest you need to go is 78mm thats the size of the opening on the intake.

Not the stock LS1 or LS6 intake. Opening is 75 mm. like the TB.

You probably meant the LSX 78mm intake. Actually, the opening on them is about 77+ a little. Like the stock one, the openings are a little out of round (a few tenths of a mm anyway). The 90 checks at 90.

You can bore a stock TB to 78 mm, but you'll be very near the shaft bearings. You'll also "strike air" in a few places, or have paper thin walls in spots. Some of it depends on which supplier did the casting. I've never seen one bored to 78 that didn't need holes filled.

I got a quote from a shop for porting and polishing my throttle body and they said it would be less than $100.00. So I would venture to say $150 is a bit high.

Yea, $150 for a P/P TB plus your stocker seems a bit steep. Especially since he's BS'ing you with the "85mm" comment.
