Good morning, I have a 96 Impala with the stock LT1 in it. I wanted to turn it into a 383 stroker. This will be a DD, So I wanted to know What are some of the best bang for the buck heads I could use?

It's pretty much agreed Ai has the best stock ported heads for an LT1 ...I'm going with their 200cc version for my 383 build. It also helps they are a local shop for me Apparently, the Charlotte/Concord NC area is the LT1 tuners mecca.

Heads don't do much by themselves if you don't change the cam as well, so you SHOULD be looking at a heads/cam combo. LE is known for his budget setups so you might want to start looking there. The world of valvetrain is definitely a world of you-get-what-you-pay-for.
If I were you, I'd wait until you have the budget to do your build the right way the first time.

I dont agree ai is the best for lt1s...ive heard just about the same for both ai and loyd.....and seen just as great results....side note....loyd has great costumer service and always shares his knowledge on things...I will be running his stage 2 and cam on my 383.
its hard to beat these guys even if you go local....simply cus this is mostly all they do....you can get a set of loyds stage 2 for about 1400 total shipped and all...comes with springs,valves...etc...however i would agree you need to post your goals?hp?

Miss a shift there, Captain?
I dunno... I would say get decent heads and it will make a world of difference. Save up and get a cam that complements the heads and even better things will happen.

Thing is if you do things right and worry more about getting good heads and NOT worry about adding displacement you can wax a LOT more cars. A cheap stroker with cheap heads will be a turd. A stock LT1 shortblock with good heads can fly. Back in like 2007 I went to the big national Impala event and hurt a lot of feeling when my old 190cc Advanced Induction setup was the second fastest naturally aspirated qualifier after driving nearly 500miles to get there. The fastest also had AI heads and a solid roller in a 383 and his was faster NA than any of the power adder cars.
You are planning to go about this wrong, will you be helped or are you going to persist in your mistake?

@ 96capricemgr I am new to the lt1 world so I am really just trying to beef my 96 impala up I guess bang for the buck parts. I am not trying to break the bank while doing so but a couple of guys around town was like telling me how good a 383 stroker was. I personally just want to have a stout running lt1 now that I have read different threads about the 383 lt1. So are you running pump gas? What do you recommend?

It takes a LOT of boltons to be ready for engine work, but when the time for engine work comes a good set of heads and cam is money better spent than a 383 with no money left for proper heads and cam.
I know popular opinion is make the engine bigger, BUT IMO that is a mistake unless you have the budget to still do the topend right. To do a proper stroker with good new parts throughout you are going to be looking at $1800+ for the rotating assembly, $1000+ in machining/assembly, easily $3000+ in heads(ported GM)and valvetrain/gaskets. Still don't have the fuel system $500, CAI $100+, Exhaust $700+, tranny/TC $2300+, rearend work $800+, this is still not a complete list need tuning, going to find repairs(hoses/bushings/brakes etc.) to make along the way, still need suspension work.
IMO do all that other stuff first, then if you have a good solid $3000 left then look at heads and cam on the stock shortblock. If you still have $8000 left then consider a stroker
I know those numbers are scary, and some will argue they are high, maybe some are but I can also tell you most guys endup spending more than these numbers by the time you try a few things or make incremental changes as you want more power.
Yes my car is pump gas, it is a true street car, AC, ABS, power seats etc, always driven to and FROM the track, get high teens for mileage.
