Default FS : 1997 BMW Z3 with LS1/T56 swap

Year: 1997
Make: BMW
Model: Z3
Price: $17000
Mileage: 146000
Private or Dealer Listing: Private Listing
Location (State): PA
Color: White
Transmission: Manual
Drivetrain: Rear Wheel Drive
LS Engine?: Car has LS engine

I've decided it might be smart to free up some money for other projects, so I'm putting my 1997 BMW Z3 up for sale.

Some quick info -

I've owned the car since I believe December of 2009, and I've put less than 10k miles on it, bringing it to it's current state of 146k miles. It's white with a black top and black interior. The paint is decent, but in no way a show car. Realistically, the front and rear bumpers need re-sprayed. I might have this done soon, but if I don't I'm willing to negotiate a bit on price to make up for it. The interior is in pretty good shape, although it does have some wear here and there. The leather, heated seats have no rips or tears. The front tires are basically new, and the rears still have another summer of life in them. Mechanically, the car is perfect. Just about everything drivetrain-related on the car has been upgraded/replaced.

The car started life as a 4-cylinder car, was torn down and built by DonG into an SR20-powered monster, was purchased and torn down by me, and now sits with a 2001 LS1/T56 drivetrain.

Mod list -

Exterior -

Known issues with the car -

As mentioned, the paint has some chips and nicks, and the front/rear bumpers could use a spray.
The hazard lights don't work. It's most likely a relay issue, but because everything works otherwise I've never bothered to look into it. The hazard button is also cracked. (New hazard button installed.)
The windshield has a small chip that was filled. I believe this occurred during transport from Washington to Pennsylvania.
There are three holes for 60mm gauges under the HVAC controls, but the car only has two installed, leaving an opening (see pics.)

The title is clear and in my name, and I'm in no real rush to sell if the right offer doesn't come along. Please note, though, that there's more than $25k in parts alone on this car.

Current asking price is $17,000, but I'm very open to negotiations/offers.

I can/will take more photos/videos of the car.

Many additional photos can be found here and also here.

Thanks!

The swap wasn't terribly difficult - it's a tight fit in spots, but everything went together pretty smoothly.

As an aside, I would consider trades for other "sports" cars (Evo's, S2000s, C5's, 2G AWD DSM's, etc.) + cash where necessary.

Also note that the price is OBO, and I'm willing to work with the right buyer.

xbladr,

Sorry, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for. Thanks for the offer, though!

Very nice! Drove one with the straight 6 in it and it was fun, can't imagine one with a LS1 in it. TTT

The AC compressor is there, and I originally intended to adapt the lines to keep AC, but never got around to it.

As mentioned, the car comes with f-body AC lines, and the AC compressor is on the motor.

As for the gauges, the tach, speedo, and gas gauge are factory. Water temp and oil pressure are aftermarket.

Thanks,

Yea, I can understand that. I actually originally purchased this car sight-unseen (only pictures/videos/speaking on the phone with PO) and had it shipped to PA. I gambled and came out ok, but it definitely isn't a path I recommend.

I am very interested in this car. I have a 07 WRX with few mods. 300hp daily driver. PM me if you are interested or if this car is still for sale.

How strong is the LSD rear end? Can they take abuse or is the ls1 pushing the limits of it?

Name is Eric and i am in Iowa. I joined just to get info about this car and possibly work something out. I still need to fill out my profile lol.
