Hawk HPS = low dust pads?
I have hawk HPS in the fronts and some cheap duralast in the rears. I noticed that my rear duralast pads produce a lot more dusts than my hawk hps in the fronts.
i rarely seen this happens, since i know there is a lot more braking power in the fronts compare to the rears.
i am under the suspicion that my rear pads are dragging, cause i have this humming noise starting at 35mph and gradually getting louder as speed increases.
thanks for your input

HPS are pretty low dust, but probably about the same as the bad pads. your theory is right, however, the fronts should still be getting dirtier quicker. It's possible they are making more dust, or the caliper is stuck, or a bearing as those have mentioned.
However, the bearing won't cause the dust so you could have 2 different issues.

Before the front pads were changed to HPS, were the rears particularly dusty? I suspect it has become something that has occurred since the front pad change.
It's a brake bias thing.
HPS pads are a higher performance brake, giving you more initial bite and able to withstand heat better than the stock pads.
Consequently, since the rears are not matched, the bias from the ABS system is making the rear pads bite harder and there for causing more dust.

My front wheels lose that chrome sunlight POP/BLING pretty quick with the new Hawks pads. They are pretty black after just a few hundred hard miles. Guess I better get used to wiping the fronts down often. Backs look like I just cleaned them.....This wasn't like that with the previous (unknown) front pads.

is this normal?
my rear brake dust is normal/black though.

Your telling me. I absolutely love the pads(HP+'s) besides the occasional squeaks at low speed braking, and the dust is out of this world. It is the nature of the pad and an unfortunate trade off. My wheels stay clean for about 1.5 days with 90% freeway driving, lol. But they do grab like a **** though.

You should see what the Wilwood Polymatrix 'E' compound pads that came with my brake kit were like... Howled like a school bus and produced huge amounts of dust all over the place. Unbelievable stopping power, but I had to give up and go to their 'Q' pad which has much better street manners.
