Ok, trying to decide if i need to go to a high torque starter. The engine is an LS3 erl dry sleeved stroker 434ci. 11.5:1 compression with a 237/247 114 cam. wandering if the stock starter off the l76 that was in the car is adequate or if i need to get a replacement. If so what would you suggest? its going into a G8.

My 457ci 11.2:1 LS7 turns over with the original stock unit, no issues. Plus I use a 15 lb battery to power it.

You should be fine.

Yea i figure it should crank it and i assume the l76 starter will work on an ls3 block? just wandered how well it would crank it. the ls7 may have a stouter starter? also you increased 30ci and what .2 points on compression. Ive went up 70 inches and 1.2 points on compression i why im concerned. If i can get by without a high buck starter im all about it at the moment this thing and buying a house is about to break me.

Mine is the stock 1999 LS1 starter with a little Braille battery.

So it went up 111 cubes and a .7 jump in compression. Same starter worked fine on my 412 with 12.4:1. No way yours would need more.

If you want to spend money you do not need too, by all means. I have done that several times myself. In fact one item was a hi torque starter that would not fit with my headers, no matter wear I indexed it too. Someone got a good deal on it.

Hey Rampant, I have the your starter and it wouldn't fit with my Kooks headers either

Doug, I thought you had a different header or did you change them with the stroker?

All the brands seem to have that clockable design too. The other nice thing about the stocker is it is lighter.

Stock starter on my 418 11.7 no issues. 140 rpm starts easy

Most stock starters are fine IMO. Your static compression went up but your overlap will let more than enough out to cancel that. You don't have an old school chevy motor with a locked out distributor or anything.
You will be fine dude, don't worry about it.

My 13 year old starter just gave up the ghost but even at that age, it turned to 427 over just fine. I replaced it with a stocker. I think I make a little more cylinder pressure than you do with my small cam and 11.3:1 CR.
