My friend did a tune on his stock trans am with simply a lid and cat back. he said he didnt feel too much power increase but smoother response and slightly better gas mileage.

Yes, you will.

Especially for an A4 car (auto trxmsn) as the shifts re-calibration help with improved response.
As a yardstick on a stock A-4 car you should gain around 0.5 of a second for the 30 to 70mph acceleration time.

Get a tuner with a good reputation and you'll get what you pay for.

+++1 for getting a good reputable tuner!! Do not learn the hard way as I have and try to save a few dollars here and there. I now have over 1k in my tune, instead of doing it right the first time.

I personally have tuned many A4 cars including my own. It will respond as stated, "0.50 sec." faster in the quarter from tuning alone. Despite your modifications adding power on their own, maximing their true tuned potential, and adjusting your trans. setting will REALLY wake up your ride. I recommend you get a mail order tune from Frost.

I gained 0.6 seconds in the quarter after a frost tune. On a car with a lid and gears only. 13.0 to 12.40

It is the cheapest horsepower you can buy.

No. You will though benefit from buying the software and tuning it yourself.
