Default KB GT Vs Tuned LS1

Met up with a buddy from MustangForums this evening to catch up and do a couple runs since he has a KB now. We ran back when I had the S197, and it was ugly for his basically stock/can tuned auto 2V. Well, he is back to redeem himself, and redeem himself he did. We started at a 40, 50 and 70mph and ran to 120-130mph. His mods are a KB 2.1L @ 10 PSI, KB CAI w/ 90MM MAF, J-MOD 4R70W, B&M Trans cooler, MAC O/R H, MAC catbacks, Nitto 555's 255/40/17 Front 275/40/17 rear, Weapon-X COPs. I'm basically a tuned/lid/cat-back auto SS. My mods are in my sig as well.

Another run. I had to let off as soon as he was about to pass me up due to the car up ahead.

and the other run..

You have a auto....race him from a dig. If you had a 6m you would've been right beside him.

as soon as your auto shifts, drop off on the powerband and he starts to immediatly pull. Stall and maybe 3.73's would make a big difference.

He spent ALOT of money to beat you by 2 car lengths. shouldnt take you much to even up the score.

He's an auto too. We're both on street tires as well..... You guys think I could definitely hold him off from a dig and not basically have the same results? Either way, he still has the faster car IMO. I think something as simple as a set of LTs would come damn near putting us even though. He has already said that he has a whole new respect for LSx cars and will never try to mod another 4.6 2 valve. $5k in that KB, and he just does pull 2 lengths on a tune only LS1. He was a tad disappointed, unfortunately.

Btw, on the way home my rear passenger tire came apart. Bout time considering they are the ten year old tires that came on the car from GM, lol. Trying to nail down a set of DRs now, so a dig run will have obvious results if it happens.

id do the stall and better gears first. LT's will be good as well but the stall and better gears will help you take advantage of that power and stay there longer and get there quicker.

Those modulars pull hard up top. He may have let off with a two car lead but he was walking away from you at a pretty good clip.

if i was the mustang owner i would have went home and put it up for sale, good run op, honest you did really good, and the only time i saw him pull on you pretty good is when you had to let off, honest i know how bad 2vs are but i didnt expect to see it that close with a pretty much stock camaro lol, i dont think longtubes would have made it much closer , but longtubes, cam, stall and gears you would yank that ponys doors off lol

My wife says I am^^^ Lol, na man I just bought the car a few months ago and it only had 10,500 miles on it when I picked it up. They still had plenty of tread left, but they were starting to dry out pretty bad. She's getting new rubber today if I can find what I want in stock locally.

Not trying to argue with you, but 2Vs are terrible up top. It took that KB for him to pull away like that. He's a friend of mine though, so we sat around awhile afterwards and discussed the runs. He never let off until he was at 130 mph. He was a little let down that he didn't pull me much harder. Also posted over on the Mustang Forum that he will never buy and mod another 2V as long as he lives. I honestly felt bad that he was not satisfied with it after spending so much to get it where it is. Here's a vid of he and I racing about a year and a half ago when he was NA. I was in my S197 with 4.10s, Intake, tune, and pulleys. That S197 trapped 108 just like my current LS1 does, so its a pretty good comparison to show just how much that KB did for him.

Maybe stock or bolt on ones but the boosted ones are nasty above 100. Looks like your buddy proved that to you...

2V with a KB are still kinda slow. Guy just posted he took his to the trakc with the same KB SC and full exhaust and DR's and ran a 12.6 best. That isn't really impressive

I think full bolton's, stall, and gears you might either take him or be door to door. Those 2v's really need alot of money in mods to do work.

He showed me his dyno sheet as well. He made almost exactly 400 RWHP (STD) on a dynojet. I think if he did LTs instead of running stock manifolds, he could easily pick up 20-25 more HP, but there again he would be looking at spending another $7-800. If I did a mild cam and nothing else, I have no doubts I could at minimum stay even with him, but with a cam and LTS he would be history.
