Head options, need input.
Ok, i have a 99 SS with some totally jacked up heads, stripped bolts all over the place (ill never take it to that shop again).... Anyway, i just bought a set of used 01 heads complete. I plan on putting my springs and retainers on the new heads to handle my asa cam. I also plan on cleaning up the heads (obviously), and lapping the valves by hand. I might also do a little smoothing of the ports myself, nothing crazy. Since ill be taking my heads off, id like to get the best, if any, power gain i can get. What is the max i can shave/mill these heads and still use 7.400 stock length pushrods? And what will my compression ratio be then? What kind of HP gains will i see? Can i still run crappy 91 octane gas (only thing avail out here)... Any other opinions or suggestions welcomed! I wont be putting these heads on for at least a month or 2. But im getting the heads this week and i want to prep them the best i can. Thanks!

The lift of your cam is going to really dictate how much you can mill them without P/V issues. Depending on that, I wouldn't go more than .30 and you may see a half point bump in compression tops.

Im running the ASA hot cam, specs are 226/236 .525/.525 on a 110LSA. So its low lift, but high duration. Dunno if that matters. Im looking to keep my comp cams chrome moly pushrods i just bought, they are 7.400 stock length. I seem to remember someone telling me you can only mill .020 and still keep stock pushrods.. i need to confirm that. And see what gains ill get with milling it that much.

Not 100% sure, but I believe the ASA cam has a similar size base circle as the stock cam. If that is the case, then don't mill the heads over .030", as this will increase the lifter preload, necessitating shorter pushrods.

The shop that does your mill should check the clearance issues before they mill and let you know what can be done. I would get a good valve job and if it was me, run new valves, $160 and flow much better than stock.
