Default STS turbo for my setup? - Need to pass Cali Emissions

I am never happy when a car comes to the market that is ***** to the wall fast. So, with the ZL1's eminent release, I "need" to pony up for some more power - not much more, in the 100 hp range so I will go with a small turbo. I am in California and I want to pass emissions, so STS i the only route I have for C.A.R.B. My cam is pushing the limit of emissions as it is (226/230 .598/.600 117).
Anywho...

1. Do I need to go with a smaller camshaft to pass emissions?
2. Is an STS able to be "hidden"?
- The back showing looks like ****. Can it be hidden behind the rear bumper of a Trans Am?
- Can the dual exhaust look be maintained?
- How much does the piping show under the car?
3. Am I screwed with a lowered car?

Is there anything else I should know getting into this?

Thanks for any help.

I love mine, but the best you can do to hide it is to paint it black. The new kit runs a dual pipe off the waste gate. As far as being lowered, I have very little clearance at stock height. Check out zl1killa's thread, "sts install and stuff." He has a great write up for his TA.

Thanks for the link. STS is out. Clearance is a big issue. It is a street car in downtown San Diego. Not a good recipe for clearance anyway! Maybe it is time to go back to the bottle. Taking it off once every two years for smog shouldn't be a problem!

I wonder how well it would hide behind the 6le diffuser...

Can the pipes be placed in a way that does not affect ground clearance?

it should hide pretty good behind the 6le diffuser... yes, the pipes can be placed without sacrificing ground clearance.

Awesome! Thanks.
There is something about going from a 300 shot to N/A with a smaller cam that I am having a hard time dealing with. I want the show car, but I want the race car-ish feel too. What can I say, I'm an addict. Thank god STS got the C.A.R.B. cert!

I didnt know you needed acrb sert if it was post cat?

I could show you pics of my 98 ss, but you can look at any stock ss....and thats what it looks like. You can not tell its turboed....street racers have looked at it, and didnt see anything....hood open......The cold pipe goes thru the core support, and thru the stock air box......even the oem muffler is in place. It makes mid 500's with the stock cam. Its not an sts though.

Any pics of the cut-out setup? just curious, what muffler did you use?
Thanks!

Technically, since it is post cat, it isn't part of the emissions system. I think the problem comes in the intake side. Don't quote me on that though.

sorry i dont have any pictures, but once i get my car from the shop, (doing suspension work and tune) ill definitely take some and post them up. i should be getting it back tuesday. when i tell people i have a rear mount turbo and an electric cutout, their expressions are priceless... as for muffler, i went with a Magnaflow bulllet. its really quiet, when i have the cutout closed cant even hear the turbo. once its open then you can hear the turbo spooling.

Truth. I lived in Ridgecrest from 05-07, and San Diego from 08-10 while I was in the Navy. I can't wait to move back.
