Pics of my soon to be turbo'd LS1!
I just thought I would post some pictures of my soon to be turbo'd LS1. The car started as a 307. I only drove it home with that engine and then pulled it. The last 4 years the car has had 4 different 496's. None has lasted more than 7 months. High Compression, E85, track and lots of street miles.
I can't wait to get this thing going. I think the turbo'd small block will just sound nasty in this car. I plan on it being my daily driver with the improved gas mileage. With me in it, the car was 3700lbs but should lose a couple hundred going to the small block. Goal is 5.80's in the 1/8th.
Enjoy!

Damn! Thanks for the compliments...I have worked 8 years on it. I wanted a big block so bad. It had a wicked cam and a mean rumble. Several builders have tried and tried to build one I could drive on the street and so far no luck. This last build cost 8k and my wife is about to divorce. lol. I am trying to prove I can sell all my big block parts that aren't broken to completely build this up. Plus, I think the car actually "looks" like it should have the turbo set up. I only blew it up a week ago, I have already torn down the engine and sold lots of parts and either traded or bought some turbo stuff. So far I have not spent a dime out of my own pocket.
Here is what I have so far.
-2003 LS1 out of a suburban with 64k miles. It was running good with 60psi before we pulled it. I got it complete with alternator, starter, air conditioning compressor, ecm, wiring harness, etc. for $683
-Twin pt62mm turbos
-Edelbrock tall elbow
-Comp Cams XER 273 224/230 .581/.588 114
-Patriot Gold Dual valve spring kit
-317 heads
I sold my intake and heads from the big block, the day after blowing it up. That bought the turbos and engine. I traded the 317 heads for my ATI damper, I bought the cam and elbow for $250 and sold my Isky needless lifters for $250, etc.. so far I am dead even. We will modify the factory wiring harness and use HPtuners to tune it. Plus, I plan to run E85. $2.45 anywhere around here. Going to open up the top ring gap to .028, use head studs.
I need an Edelbrock EFI tall intake, BOV's, Wastegates, Fuel Regulator. That's about it.

The suburban never came with a ls1 in it unless someone swapped it in there, they came with 5.3's or 6.0 in them if they were a 2500 model. Both are also iron motors the 5.3 never came in aluminum until a little newer models! The ls1 is a aluminum motor and is 5.7 liters. Anyways nice car!!!
That tells you how new to this stuff I am....thanks for setting me straight. So is mine an LQ4?

More pics...the car has changed a lot. If I didn't like the way it looked I changed regardless of how much time I put into it. The first paint job I loved with the black rally stripes but it "looked" like every other 69 Chevelle out there. It didn't fit my personality. So I stripped it down a couple months later and started over.
