Default Fan Combinations for FI Cars

Ok, I know it's an LT1 car, but the principle is the same. Stroker, turbo, decent HP numbers, yadda yadda yadda. Running in a stock radiator, stock location w/ a/c condenser, stock shroud with recommended cheapy low profile fans that are used in kits with vertical radiator turbo kits. Intercooler is horizontally mounted in front of the radiator crossmember, so there's very little restriction in the airflow going up to the radiator, and certainly less than if I had the radiator standing upright.

Car was running at about 210-220 on a 55-60* day today. Too warm for my taste.

So I was wondering, how much do you think it would help if I were to install a pair of decent pusher fans on the front of the A/C condenser for a pusher puller four fan combo for airflow? Crazy? Bad idea? Good idea? Other ideas?

Bad idea. Get a really good shrouded set of pullers. The pushers will cause a restriction for the pullers, or vice versa.

Problem is that I've got no room for a big set of pullers. I'm going to look into better pullers that are more stockish in CFM's, but I can barely fit in the ones that are in there now and they're about the thinnest I could find.

I had 2 pullers w/ 1 pusher when radiator/condensor were together like factory has it, always ran a lil warm for my taste too.
My Fix:
Cut front of rad support, moved condensor down & foward 2"+ installed pusher on radiator between the rad & condensor. temps dropped 15-20+ degrees.
(you have to bend a/c hard line straight & small bend at end to make line longer to reach)

Oh, I could stand the radiator/condensor up, but I won't. I'm keeping it looking as factory as possible. I've talked to a couple of other guys who've had success with a pusher on the front and a puller on the back, so I think I'll give it a go.

Hey, you could also make the car run cooler, but it seems you won't. Good luck with the pusher puller setup. When it doesn't work and you want it to run cool tell us how standing up the radiator works. Wanna keep it looking factory as possible? Take the turbo off it then. I don't mean to sound like a dick, but hate when people ask for advice and then don't like the answers they hear.

Who didn't like the answers? Your advice was sound, I never discounted it, only said it wasn't an option for me. Sounds like you didn't like that I'm not taking YOUR advice. What works for you doesn't work for me, plain and simple. You don't have to be a dick because I don't like your particular advice. Sorry to sound like a dick.

Could car less if you take my advice. Just hate to see you waste your time on something I already know about. I have spent a bunch of money figuring it out the hard way. I did the stock radiator with pushers, pullers, split pusher pullers and it didn't do what I wanted. I ultimately went with a bigger radiator and a good puller setup. The stock core is only a single row and doesn't have a whole lot of capacity. The more water you can put in the system the better.

Here are the pushers I bought. My car isn't running yet, but many others have used these to push through a condenser and radiator and had no cooling issues.

210-220* is normal for a LT1, they run pretty hot

If that bothers you run a lower thermostat

BTW, its a good idea to put some sort of fan on the intercooler as well when its not against the radiator. When its against it, the rad fans will draw through it

It's a Hypertech 160* thermostat, Meziere EWP, stock radiator, non-stock pullers mounted in the stock shroud. Fans are set to come on a 180* and go off at 170* IIRC.....I'd have to pull the tune off the XFI and look at it.

I am running a 10" puller on top of the intercooler also.

210-220 is normal for a stockish LT1. I haven't run over 190 for a long time until I crowded up the engine bay.

a 160 t stat can actually make a car run hot. It hard for an engine to cool to 160 so the t stat is open all the time. Also, its easy to keep a car cool without a condenser. Keeping the ac is the tricky part.
