Mine was doing the same thing. Ticking seemed to come from up top, and would increase with RPM. No power loss, no miss, no error codes. Turned out to be a lifter. Car is now receiving a LQ9/L92.

the car has never been overrevved and has about 70K on it now, it was a 99 and she bought it with around 55K on it last year so it sat around for a while.....
New plugs, wires, filter, all around tune up, it really sounds like an exhaust leak to me but maybe when i see her next well get a video for you guys to hear

Could be Valve train, exhaust leak, lifter, a plug that isnt in all the way. There's a ton of different things it could be. Just have to start looking and start eliminating. I have a tick and i took the easy way out after i couldn't pin point what it was... brought it to a lsx builder and it turns out to be your normal noisy ls1. Mine had 16,000 on it too.

yeah mine has piston slap sounds like a diesel lol, but now thats its colder in the am when i start it its even worse. as i start driving it goes away once warmed up no change in power.

Dont really have the tools or space to do any head removal type work, im in an apartment

You would have to pull the valve cover off to take a look inside. I wouldn't do that until you check your exhaust for leaks, maybe check your plugs to see if ones loose. If you cant find anything i would take a video and head over to the internal section where someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you.
