Default I have a tick.

I have a tick that increases when I rev. Not super loud but noticeable when the windows are down. Any ideas on what it could be?

its definitely not knocking, and its also not down on power. RPM dependent and pretty loud tick.

That's the GF btw...

most likely a lifter. I have lifter issues that come and go. Car still runs strong though.

Mine was doing the same thing. Ticking seemed to come from up top, and would increase with RPM. No power loss, no miss, no error codes. Turned out to be a lifter. Car is now receiving a LQ9/L92.

Has the engine ever been over-revved? Stock pushrods bend easily and then make noise.

Had the same problem last week. It ended up being an exhaust leak due to a bad header gasket.

the car has never been overrevved and has about 70K on it now, it was a 99 and she bought it with around 55K on it last year so it sat around for a while.....

New plugs, wires, filter, all around tune up, it really sounds like an exhaust leak to me but maybe when i see her next well get a video for you guys to hear

Could be Valve train, exhaust leak, lifter, a plug that isnt in all the way. There's a ton of different things it could be. Just have to start looking and start eliminating. I have a tick and i took the easy way out after i couldn't pin point what it was... brought it to a lsx builder and it turns out to be your normal noisy ls1. Mine had 16,000 on it too.

How does one check for the lifter/valvetrain issues? i remember hearing about a screwdriver up to the head and listening trick, or something like that.

Dont really have the tools or space to do any head removal type work, im in an apartment

You would have to pull the valve cover off to take a look inside. I wouldn't do that until you check your exhaust for leaks, maybe check your plugs to see if ones loose. If you cant find anything i would take a video and head over to the internal section where someone more knowledgeable will be able to help you.
