Default AIR Pump

I know the AIR pump is supposed to whine but lately after the car sits for a short time then started up, it whines louder than normal almost sounds like a bad bearing in a pulley. No ses light but car feels slightly sluggish. ANy opinons. Also the car makes a muffled clicking sound at low rpm especially when cold almost like an exhaust leak. 99 z28 with 50,000 miles on it. Thanks

I have a 99 SS just posted a thread asking about that noise as well...so far its a normal sound and its actually an annoying loud on mine which is supposedly normal from the responses i got. As for the car feeling sluggish your going to have to get a response from someone else b/c in my opinion that could be a lot of diff. reasons. Good luck.

just remove your air pump and all the tubes that go along with it. I did when I put my headers on last sunday. Yeah your ses light will come on but you won't have to worry about the pump acting up and there is 0 performance loss for doing it.

Check your one way valves on your air hoses, if they go bad they will make a clicking sound and because they are letting air back to the pump it will make a louder sound.

two things.... firstly, the air pump is electric right???

Secondly, I think mine has crapped out, in which case I'll need a new one, as the Sniffers are rough here in NY, so if anyone pulls theirs out (and its working) and they wanna send it my way instead of tossing it, id be happy to take it off your hands!

Is this only for the stock manifold or do Lt's have this Air set up as well? If i remove the air but not the egr to keep the ses lite off will if harm anything. Is this also legal for emissions?

I dont know about CT, but in NY state its actually "technically" illegal to tamper with emissions equipment on your vehicle. Ive never ever seen someone locked up or fined over it, but it wont pass inspection unless you can pay someone off.

Cha-ching! What is it worth to ya? I will even throw in the filter that you need if you have an air lid.

I thought mine had gone out too, but I changed the relay and replaced the check valves and now it works fine.

where the check valves and relay... I think if the price is right I'll buy it anyway as a spare, the car has almost 80k, and I manage to always break tons of stuff on it so good to have spares lol....

Follow the medal air tubes from the manifold to where they meet the rubber hoses. The check valves are between the medal tubes and the rubber hoses. You can get them from Autozone for about 9.00 a peice. The relays are in the fuse box under the hood. It say air pump and air sol. They are little relays and you can also get them from autozone for about the same price.

If anyone needs the airpump or the check valves let me know I will give them to you for the cost of shipping.
