Default 383rwhp, want 400. What to do?

So I bought a 99 FRC that has pretty much full bolt ons (full exhaust, LS6 intake and throttle body, underdrive pulley) plus milled 806 heads 60 thousandths and have a stage 1 port by a local guy, and a GM hot cam. It made 383/360 in 2004 when it was tuned on a 97 degree day

I really want at least 400, but the P to V is going to severely limit my cam choices and I don't want to do different heads.

With the not so "hot" cam, would I gain much going to 1.8 or 1.85 rockers?

Any other ideas outside of different heads and cam?

Thanks

Those numbers seem kinda low. I would think your heads are holding you back, not to mention that .60 is a LOT to take off. I would say ditch them and put at least a set of 243's or 799's on.

I dont foresee a simple cam swap (with your limited options) getting you an additional 20rwhp.

What's your exhaust? A full 102 intake including the halltech intake, 102 MAF and 102 TB should get you close

The car has an LS7 maf and air bridge with a blackwing. Melrose lt's with cats. I was looking at the EPS 222/226 cam.

Stepping up from a hot cam to something in that range wont bump me 20rw? Everything I have read says the hot cam is a joke of a cam. The heads arent amazing, but was told they should flow in the range of 243's.

Working with Pat G to see if he thinks there is a cam that will do it.

you can make over 400rwhp with stock heads and a decent cam these days. ditch the crap cam you have now, and get a modern lobed cam, you should be over 400 easily.

I got over 400 with a 224R from TSP. Mods are in sig stock unmilled 241's too. Get the "hot" cam out to a 228ish and you will have it.

With the heads milled that much Pat G, says I will be limited to duration no more than 226 and thats putting the P to V a little tighter than he would like to see. Thats what makes it tough, otherwise it wouldn't be a question and a cam would be on its way.

Just not in the cards right now, I'll either swap the cam or make some minor changes and be happy with what I have.

I think for 17 rwhp save your pennies and when you have enough go with a heads/cam combo that will net you some serious horsepower. Your car has technology from back in the day. 17rwhp wont be extremely noticeable and your better off putting on some quality parts with todays technology that will really make some power. Honestly 400rwhp has been done cam only with small cams. Save your money, search, and read up.

For about the same price as a cam swap, you could pick up a set of used LS6 or 243 heads and swap them on. Without knowing how well your 'local guy' ported those heads, I would bet they're not as good as you might think. A budget head swap with some .040" thick gaskets could get you there, and would open up a lot more options for a cam swap later on.

I tuned a TA today, made 341, then 370 with addition of hotcam, in an auto. Its not that bad...everyone that bashes it just thinks you have to go big to make any power. Take it to a dyno and see what it does now, find a dynojet and I bet it makes 400
