Previous best was 12.52 at 110 with a lid, cat-back, and a tune. Added OBX LTs and ORY and ran a 12.42 at 110.5 on a 1.89 60', and a 12.49 at 111.5 on a 1.93 60'. Street tires...my trans bounced off the limiter on the 12.42 pass between 2nd and 3rd. Might of been a 12.3 pass had it shifted...oh well, thats expected out of a stock 4l60 in time, lol.

Yup...wish I could say I didn't, lol. I could have the limiter bumped up or shift point dropped a tad, but it would only mask the problem for awhile until it gets worse. It didn't do it on the 1st pass, did it ever so slightly on the 2nd pass, then you can hear it on the 3rd pass (2nd vid against the Stang). When we left I revved her up in 2nd and it did it pretty bad again. Sucks, but I've been expecting it.

I let her cool down for a full hour between passes. That being one reason and the other just so the engine was not heat soaked. Only made 3 passes in 4 hours.

I thought headers would've pick you up a bit more. I think I got a little over .1 from going from macs to kooks and it was very noticeable in mid range tq. I got .3 and 3mph going from stock manis and y to the macs with ory. Strang how cars react differently.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Fully expected a solid 2 tenths, maybe even 3 like you experienced. The stock mani really didnt look all that bad, not to far off from being a shorty. Idk, maybe I need to open up the airbox some. Its still in stock form other than the lid and filter. Just doesnt look like much air can get in there through those tiny slits at the bottom of the airbox. I just can get my finger tips through there.

Just food for though. I have the same mods as you and mine is in the 12's on motor. I did put a 3000 stall in, but it didn't pick up anything since my radials are wayyyy to tall with my 2.73s. Anywayyys to my point. My car on a 70 shot pushed through the converter pretty bad on the 2-3 shift and ran a 7.9 at 90 mph. After messing with my diablo (factory tune, my friend upped the line pressure and shift points), it jumped down to a 7.5x at 92mph. Bad shifts kill e.t. and mph. It'll run good the next time out.

No doubt, shifts make all the difference. I'm wondering if bumping the 2-3 shift point down a hundred RPM would keep it off the rev limiter...at least until I can swing a built trans, etc.
whats your 1/8 mile times?
7.98'@89 mph.... 1.89 60'. Most runs are 8.0 at 88-89

Is the air box mod just the bottom of the box cutout? Just wondering cause mine has two open (square) holes under the filter making the top radiator support visible. I just don't see anywhere else to remove more plastic...

Cut the plastic behind those holes.. CUT THE ENTIRE BASE OUT! im telling you it worth a lot... i ported my T/B and maf housing a lil bit and removed screen and put lid on all at once... Then i did the airbox mod about 2 weeks later.. picked up way more from airbox mod than from the other mods..

Going by how you describe it, I think it's already done. There's nothing between the filter and the metal radiator support....there's a ledge for the filter to rest on, but other that there's nothing there.

the two holes making core support visible is stock. i actually blasted part of my core support with the plasma cutter to open it up even further...... if the holes are only on the front half of the lower, then thats stock...cut the plastic behind that... expose EVERYTHING you can of the stock filter..

Free mods I have are, FRA, Ported TB, Bumpstop Mod, and that's it so far. Haven't done the TB bypass yet. Plan on pulling the washer fluid tank completely to try and get more air through there (and cut holes through the styrofoam behind the front bumper).

Well, to be honest it hasn't missed a beat since that day at the track. I know I gotta stall it, but I can't decide if I want to buy a build kit or somebody else's built trans...or keep what I got until it takes a dump. Correction... I def do NOT have the FRA mod done. I got under the hood this after noon and see what you guys are talking about now. I'm going to break out the dremel with a cutting wheel tomorrow and take care of it. Could it pick up as much as 1 mph from doing this? Seems like it would to me, maybe 2, IDK.

Installed, 7 1/2 hours later. My dipstick tube was a huge pita and the rear exhaust clamp broke. Headers dropped in from the top on both sides pretty easily. Everything bolted up ok and got the o2s wires strapped up and out of the way. Only problem I really have is the factory exhaust didn't want to slip into the new stuff. Fought that for a while but need a new clamp to finish up.

That was quick! Well, 3.5 hours quicker than my install anyway, lol.
You fired her up yet? Run down to your local autoparts store and grab an exhaust clamp, I want to hear it (vid?).
My SLP didn't want to slip on without a fight either. Anytime you're dealing with pre-clamped exhaust, you're going to have that problem.
So the dipstick was an issue? Mine wasn't too bad. Were the LTs in the way or did you just have trouble finding the original location?
S8ER95Z

Actually had trouble getting the dipstick to come out. Worried about breaking it. Wiggled and pulled and pulled for a long time before it came out.
No vid yet, still not completely together. Long story but parts stores that have the clamp are all closed. :(
It's got a minor leak where the slip fit cuts are on the stock i pipe. If I give it any gas it will pull apart again. Just have to wait. :)

dammit!! Lol, that's the way it goes. Try to pull that pipe together as much as you can. I used a flat head to widen the cat-back as much as I could, then beat the hell out of it with a hammer to get it to slip in. Can't wait for you to get everything together and tuned to see what she does!

That CEL light is coming, don't worry, lol. Give it 25-40 miles, it'll pop up and start commanding fuel, trust me. Good thing is that it's perfectly safe until you get that thing tuned. Your biggest issue will be black soot on the tailpipes until she's tuned. When is this tune taking place anyway?

I think I'll keep this for a bit, that exhaust I got ended up being a series 80 flow and I'm liking the clean sound the stock stuff has at the moment. Really want to avoid rasp and such.

02-13-2012, 07:40 PM
I think the 80 series is supposed to actually be as or more restrictive than the OEM muffler. Absolutely no idea if there's any truth to that or not.
Skater, if you ever do decide to get a cat back and are interested in an LM2, hit me up and I'll cut you a friendly deal. I'm kind of leaning towards a true dual (X-pipe) dumped set-up. Really like the TSP. Just throwing it out there..

I have 275/17s Hankooks all the way around. I think between the tires and 3.23s, and much warmer roads, I'm a lot better off in that department. Although, I just pushed the button on 3.73s, lol...so it maybe short lived.
So traction is noticeably worse now? That's a good problem to have, lol.

02-14-2012, 10:44 PM
Good part about it is that as long as you're spinning you're not breaking parts. Hooking and hard launches is what'll cost ya. These Hankooks grip pretty damn good. If anything, you may want to look into a 555R or something. Really curious to see where you're at track wise, later in the year.

Good to hear man. The only part that you can see peeping from under mine is the Y-pipe bend under the drivers seat, but it's not an issue or anything. I had hookers on my first Camaro, and those scraped for days. That car was lowered 2" like yours, but still...the collectors were dragging every speed bump, driveway, etc. I've heard that Kooks are harder to fit as well, that coming from a couple speed shops.

Not sure if the Z28 and SS share the same stock exhaust piping, but my stock exhaust and the SLP exhaust looked damn near identical. No real restrictive bends to speak of on either, unless the OEM muffler is restrictive, which I kind of doubt. In other words, you maybe just as well off anyway.
