Default ls6 block

planning to build a motor for my 01 trans am. i am currently looking at 2 ls6 blocks 12561168 or 12561166. witch one is the better block. are they both the same? witch one is better for my application. thanks.

They are the same the 66 is an earlier block than the 68.

Either way, a 3.898 bore block is a 3.898 bore block. You will have no significant gains using a one block over the other...from a 98 ls1 block to an 04 ls6 block. They are all nearly identical with minor differences.

i was reading there is a oil port that is enlarged on the back of the block on ls6 blocks is this would this block have this. the bigger hole alows more oil to lifters.

bay to bay breathing is also refined on the 68 block for the pcv valve

I would get the newer block,more refined probably.get a ls2 block ,bigger bore for more cubes.would it be cheaper to machine a engine up north there or ship a short block already machined ?
