Stock bottom end...
What's the MAX power on a stock bottom end (steel block) I keep hearing different numbers like 600, 1000, 1400....I know they're stout and can rpm pretty decent too....

I thought the stock pistons limited the horsepower to around 550? It doesn't matter if it's boosted or juiced you still are limited by stock pistons and stock rod bolts.

Rpm usally is the death of a stock bottom end car, rod bolts can help that issue. N/A there some guys with 500+rwhp floating around but that cost some $$$. Nitrous is all in the tune up think carter in the N20 section is at a 300 hit and stock bottom end which is not the norm, His tune up must be spot on. Boost no idea.

Pretty much as I was thinking.
I know a turbo/super charger builds power as RPM climbs and is easier on parts than the sledgehammer hit of nitrous...just was seeing what I "might" expect since my build is getting ready to take off.

The max power of a stock shortblock......... is the power it was making before it let go.
There's not really an simple cut and dry answer to your question. That being said, turbo's are the 'easiest' on parts as far as power adders go. Rod load/cylinder pressure/detonation are what kills stock parts. If you can keep everything in check and happy, I would say you could make 800-1000hp live for awhile (which has been done by a few) on a turbocharged stock engine.

My car is stock bottom end with 53k miles, stock 853 heads, stock ls6 intake, stock TB, stock MAF, stock 28lb injectors, upgraded cam, pushrods, springs, oil pump. I spray a 93 jet or 300rwhp on top of a 390 NA rwhp. Never dynoed it but should be in the 650rwhp range. many 9 sec passes at 135mph or better. They will hold alot more than you think but you can't get greedy.

Turbo or supercharger HP curve looks like a ramp...Nitrous curve is just a big step/spike.

What if you use a nitrous progressive controller? A staged system? Or a boost controller? going from 5psi to 20psi at a flick of a button on a turbo setup I dont see it less violent than a comparable nitrous system.
What you are using... nitrous, blower, or turbo has nothing to do with how much HP a stock bottom end will last... its HOW you use it and how you have it tuned.

It does'nt matter how the power is made excluding a cpl situations 1 of which is e85 . E85 cools everything down enough that pre-ignition / detonation won't generally occur .
