Question GTO vs F-Body

will the new GTO beat an LS-1 f-body in race? does it just come down to driver and mods or are the new GTOs pretty much just faster?

Judging by the numbers I've seen on paper a GTO will not beat an LS1 f-bod in the 1/4. However there is a vid on this sight of a new GTO with a 100 shot running a high 11.

You meant pretty much just slower...
compared to an f-body driving-vise GTO is an extra 3-400lb with IRS and basically the same engine. The rest you can figure for yourself.

My guess the only way GTO may keep up stock-for-stock is an M6 GTO vs. A4 F-body from a roll.

Yes. They fall somewhere in between LT1 and LS1 F-bodys in 1/4 mile performance.

That's a crock of ****. The GTO stick may beat a GTO Auto But it will NOT beat an A4 WS6. They were doing 13.5 qtr and 5.1 sec 0 to 60. The GTO is mid 5 second and upper 13's in the 1/4.

I would love to race one to prove it though.

Is the M6 GTO really faster in the 1/4 than the A4 GTO?

When the LS1 fbody first appeared in 98 at first it was thought the M6 was better 1/4 mile wise than the A4 but pretty soon it was clear the A4 on average had the edge in the 1/4.

The Goat`s are PIGS (M6/A4) not even a race IMO,I recall a few good GT drivers putting up a better fight.
POS IMO,maybe they`ll do a buy back for the over rated horsepower like Mazda did with the RX-8 LMMFAO !! yup yet another 04 POS offered to the public consumer.

As Far as I'm concerned the GTO as a replacement for the Trans Am is a pathetic joke. Pontiac doesn't have a glue. I don't like the new GTO and it's my opinion of course and it doesn' even look like a muscle car. Then there are some who will say well it could be a sleeper. I can't imagine anyone wanting a sleeper. Heck when I'm driving down the road I want other cars to say oh Sh--t here comes the beast.

Bottome line here, a stock GTO will not beat a stock F-Body. Providing they are driven equally.

Correct, they are apples and oranges muscle cars and always have been.

It may not look like it belongs in road warrior movies or anything - and it may not beat any LS1 f-bodies - but it sure feels good to drive and the V8 RWD combo is nice.

The 3-400 pounds would be shed real easily if you wanted to drag a GTO only. Personally I like the comfortable power leather seats, 10 speaker stereo and air conditioning - but they aren't condusive to racing if that's your thing. I will say it needs headers and an exhaust. I keep trying to convince myself it can wait until next spring...

Sounds like pretty much the way it was with the first-gen cars in 67 - 69. Firebird 400 - lighter and thus faster; GTO - heavier and much more comfortable.

Yes - it's really hard not to chime in and defend my baby when people start insulting her. I wasn't even shopping for a new car and I fell in love with the GTO and own one. BUT it's not an f-body or f-body replacement. It's also NOT a race car.
Heck - we all have LS1's - shouldn't we all be busting on the ricer's and sticking up for our rwd v8 brethren?
Oh, and the dyno numbers have easily proven the GTO at the advertised 350 crank hp - why would they do any sort of buyback?

maybe ppl are jealous because GTO's are new and nicer. i have a 2000 ws6 and wouldn't change it for the world. maybe ina few years i'll get a GTO since they are a more refined ride with good power
