Default Can You Make Your Own Turbo Blanket?

I saw this thread from SmoknHawk (https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...ket-cover.html) and it made me think a little more. Not sure if they are good thoughts or not, but here it is...

Would it be possible to make your own blanket out of some of this material? Just cut to fit and sew it up or put metal zip ties through it maybe. I wold probably get the one that is part number HZ81024300. I know that is buying more than would be necessary for one turbo, but it's still cheaper than a blanket. I would probably buy it with a friend and we would share the material. He has a big t6 garrett turbo and I have a pt88. I know it wouldn't be used up even nearly, but still cheaper than buying two blankets by far.

Is that material okay to use directly on top of the housing? That material might fray I suppose so it might have to be covered with something else like fiberglass maybe. Just brainstorming here.

The material you linked looks somewhat promising! But there are blankets out there in the $80 range now. I think On3 makes a couple....not sure if they have a T6 blanket though.

I was looking at these blankets so that we could make them custom so they fit perfectly and it would be a bit cheaper. Not that it would be that big of a deal to just buy one.

How thick is that detroit blanket? What blanket would work well on a pt88? I know it's a bit of an odd size since it's a large t4... Would this blanket work for me? http://www.ebay.com/itm/T4-t67-t71-t...item5ae5950bd8

I've got a Detroit T6 blanket on my PT106. Don't have much run time on it yet but looks just as good as anything else I've seen...

I don't have any pics. My turbo is mounted with turbine inlet facing up so hard to see it period. It doesn't quite wrap all the way back around to the inlet flange but I'm not sure if others do either. Overall looks and fits good and I got it in 3 days.
