Default Does your dexcool "gum up" the dipstick?

Here are some pics of what I'm talking about. Anyone else experience this?

Car spends a lot more time sitting than being driven.

Thoughts?

Normal in the over flow tank. Condensation collects in there, and when non distilled water mixes with dexcool, it will do that.

Like everyone says, "normal" - not a problem. But at 13 years and 24k, if you've never had your cooling system flushed, you need to. Replace with G-05 or Prestone All Makes and forget about Dexcool sludge worries.

I replaced it yesterday but I did put dexcool back in again.

Is there any benefits what so ever to running dexcool in gm's vs non dexcool?

My '02 looked like that when the coolant was 5 years old with ~70k miles. It cleaned right off the dipstick with some brake parts cleaner. I have not had that problem ever since, but I keep the coolant changed more often than the previous owner did.

F dexcool. I used it once, and it clogged up everything. I'll never use it again.

Dexcool didn't ruin your system, something else did. Plain water, green coolant...that's what ruins dexcool is contaminants.

I've done two dexcool flushes myself, the only two it's gotten in the ten years I've owned it since it was new. Both were done with distilled water, I have not had any issues.

Coolant circulates between the overflow and the radiator with every heat up and cool down cycle, so if you change it regularly there shouldn't really be a need to do anything special with the overflow bottle, since fresh coolant is always mixing in. Only time I ever do anything special with the overflow tank specifically is if I'm starting with a car that's been neglected.

After 14 years, my '98 has a 100% original cooling system with zero issues of any kind. It's never seen anything but dexcool, changed regularly.

Just more info on Dexcool. No issues here with it. My dipstick is clean. I've flushed the system once (about 3 years ago at the 20,000 miles mark) since new, and I'm approaching 30,000 miles now.

Normal. If it bugs you, remove the over flow tank and clean it with a mild solvent or something containing citric acid. Don't forget to flush with clean water thoroughly before refilling.
