Default time for a build..suggestions? 450hp daily?

well today I found out what the mysterious sound was.. I noticed a slight loss in power over the days followed by white smoke, seemed to only happen once... then a week late it happened again I then pulled over and turned the car off then back on seemed fine no smoke.. today when I lifted the cap off the radiator I found oil in my coolant the culpret head gasket.. possibly cracked piston too I'm am trying to do a budget build my goal is around 450 or more! RELIABLE.. I was thinking porting 243's texeas speed 228r .587 in .587 exht. 112 LSA already has the ls6 intake (stock) and suggestions on bottom end stuff / top end cheap but nice (pistons, rods, lifters, etc.) I want to maybe spray when I'm done will I need to upgrade the fuel sytem? (fuelrails injectors) thanks again guys for the suggestion open to all possibilities!!

I can not say enough about having a nice set of cyl heads. I was running an old Thunder Racing 231/237 cam for years, slapped on a set of TFS 215's and made 460 wheel. I had planned to get a cam spec'd to the heads but the turbo bug bit me.

You'll need a bigger cam than the 228, look at something more around a 236/240 .600/.600 110-112 lsa.

Is your car an m6 or a4?

You'll also want higher than average compression....maybe around 11.5:1 depending on the exact cam you pick to keep your dynamic compression up around 8.2-8.3:1

Ditch your MAF and go with an SD tune with lots of street tuning to make it more tame for daily driving....how much can you tolerate when it comes to poor street manners? I ran a 4,000 stall behind my 346 with a 238/242 and loved driving it....50+ miles a day.

What is your budget? I'd recomend atleast upgrading your toss and forged pistons...smaller chambers in the heads with a very small dish and valve reliefs in the pistons with a .040" mls head gasket to get a nice tight quench to make it less prone to detonation.

You do not need a cam with 240 duration to make 450hp. You need a nice set of heads and a custom cam fit for your needs.

If on a budget, I would say have AI port 243's. And either have them or EPS custom grind you a cam.

This. Especially on a daily. Plenty of guys using low-mid 230s duration cams with a nice set of heads and making ~450 to the wheel.

Alright sweet and I have a m6 with 3:90 gears already you don't think the 228r 228/228 .587 int. .587 exh. 112 lsa cam with ported 243's and forged bottom end won't put me above 450?

to be honest 450 on a stock cube ls1 that will drive good and reliable will take big money parts like nasty heads and a big cam. if it were me personally id do the 228r like you said with some spray for when you want/need it.

231/234 LSL/LXL 113+4 and a set of AI 243's at 11:1 compression should do the trick for you and have great drive ability with those 3.90's

If you're going to get AI heads just go with their cam. They advertise the power ranges you're looking for and they spec THEIR cams to THEIR heads. Plus they have decent quality control, very unlikely you get a cam that's a few degrees off like what you can get from comp.

I'm not looking to get AI heads I'm picking up a pair of 243's and getting the portwork done at a local shop I'm just trying to figure out if I want the Texas Speed 233/239 .595"/.603" Camshaft or Ai 234 / 238 - .600" / .600" 112 Lsa or a better one that I dont know about! and still be able to meet budget and or make high numbers my bottom end is being built and I am just trying to figure out the best combo cam with ported 243's with a ls6 intake? because If i go with tsp cam i can get the combo where I would get the springs and rods at a cheaper price (budget guys) but I wanna still be able to daily drive it also if I need to look into a fast intake I might if the hp gains will be worth it

how much will the local shop charge for porting and rebuilding the heads ?do they flow heads ?look at TSP stage 1 ls6 head.you can get a head/cam combo for a good price. .which fast intake do you have in mind ?a fast 102 intake will add 15 hp over a ls6 intake.

Plain and simple you will not be able to reach your goal without sacrificing something whether it be money or driveability. I doubt your local shop will be able to do a good portjob on LS1 heads when comparing to a sponsor on here.
