Me, my brother, and a few friends including screaminredz got together this past weekend for some friendly runs. Overall had a great time and had some nice close races! I'll let the vid do the talking...

I'm let down by the formula, That's basically my car in terms of power mods and it loses to a bolt on GTO that weighs 300lbs more??? Driver mod please.

Dissapointed in the Formula. SRZ's G8 is sick as always. Your brother's GTO runs well, and needs louder exhaust so we can hear it car in the runs lol.
I wouldn't mind getting a run in with that goat, too bad I live so far away.

Not sure...he's never tracked it. That was actually his first race with the new cammed setup!
good runs and yea the t/a need a better tune or sumthing.
It was tuned at Slowhawk Performance and put down 377 on a mustang dyno. His shifts seemed pretty good and he revved it out the second run, so IDK.

Theres a reason we keep the stock exhaust! Gives it that nice sleeper chevy cavalier effect, LOL.
And thanks everyone else for the compliments!

Good runs as always. Formula made same/less power than the GTO and while his shifting wasn't awful, it wasn't as good as the goats, makes sense.

Thanks for the compliments, guy! As stated previously, those were the first races with the new setup on the Formula. He's come a long way, driving-wise, since he first started playing around with the car when I first met him. The more races he gets, the better he'll get at banging those gears!
gthoe runs good. tq difference is very evident. so that cammed m6 ls1 traps 112ish?
I think the Formula and the GTO are probably on par, with the GTO being driven better. Both are probably 114 mph cars in decent weather with equal driving.
Screamin, come to Indiana!!!!! Lol
Someday I'd like to go on a little road trip to meet up with some of the guys on here

good runs. Damn i cant wait to get my parts on so I can come out there and spend the day racing.
T/A needs to start in a lower gear and work on his shifts. Shifts werent bad.. but if i had to guess equal drivers in both cars, the T/A would have had half a car on the GTO. GTO driver has his shit together. And Screamins car doing its thing as usual

The formula was still on stock 3.42 gears. I'm sure he'd pick up big time with steeper gearing since cams love to come into their powerband faster. Both cars started in 2nd gear at around the same RPM...GTO just "hits" harder with the displacement advantage.
My brother has thought about modding the GTO more, but it's just so fun to race it as is because most people are surprised at the outcome with such minimal mods! It's such a fun car how it is, and with it's trap speed, it makes for a great match up with most street driven cars in the area.

Yea I knew something was different on the MN12 trans. I think they have a short 1st and 2nd, and a longer 3rd and 4th? Def helps move that boat! And the formula needs some 3.73's or 4.10s!!

This gearing leaves a nice dead spot when you hit 4th.
I always hated that [:(]
If I had it my way I would had the fbody gearing with a 3.73 rear and an mn12 5th gear.

Yeah, PSM's Z28 used to fall on it's face when he hit 4th gear, and that was with a 4.10 rear gear.

I'm not surprised at all.
People used to laugh in my face when I said that a typical cammed Fbody would be a good race for my GTO. It's obvious these cars don't get nearly the credit they deserve. And for some reason everyone thinks they're like 4000lbs, LOL.
Small, shitty stock tires prevent hard launches so their bone stock 1/4 mile times almost never impress anyone. The gearing makes for a shift into a dead spot in 4th right before the traps so the trap speed isn't indicative of how it'll actually run on the highway.
Nitto DRs alone sent me from 13.0 @ 108 to 12.5 @ 111.

If hes looking to really surprise people, he should pull some weight out and add some gear to it. Maybe some race wheels and a few more bolt ons. A few more car lengths and that car will upset some stout ones. My bolt on a4 gto was running 12.1 at 113 and that upset a lot of cammed f bodies.

Nightmare, of course the gto hits harder. The trans is geared closer and it has steeper gears stock. Also that formula should be in the "power band" immediately being that it only has a 228

Like I said before, gears would wake that thing up big time. And the GTO's only have a 3.45 rear gear to the F bodies 3.42, but the tranny is what gives them an edge in acceleration.

they certainly don't run like that around here. i've ran 2 (ls2 m6) in the last week and neither one impressed me. one had full exhaust, clutch, tune, gutted interior with exception to a racing seat and various other weight loss avenues. from 40 in 2nd he basically jumped out and held it. i was starting to creep back at the top of 3rd and into 4th...but we would've had to go mach penis before i caught/passed him. he was roughly .5-.75 of a car out on me. were very good races.
the other car was stock minus a borla setup that had high flow cats and catback or whatever. that wasn't real close...

For now i will leave the car as is, but next season i will be going back to slowhawk for some trickflow 215 heads and 373 gears or 410.

Everybody always "expects" a certain outcome, but that's the fun of street racing. Some cars are driven better, some perform better, etc. Never know what your gonna get! And I'd love to meet up and get a few runs in with you at some point. Whenever your free man....preferably on a weekend.

Go with the 3.73's. Unless you're planning on tracking the car a lot, you're gonna enjoy them better for cruising and highway runs (which is the majority of what we do around here). I ran every combination in my Z28 - 3.42's, 3.73's, 4.10's, and 4.10's with an MN12 trans - and for the type of driving we do around here, the 3.73's with the stock trans were by far my favorite. Yes, you could pickup a couple tenths at the strip with 4.10's vs the 3.73's, but unless you plan on hitting up LVD more than a few times a year, just trust me that it won't be worth it compared to the benefits of running the 3.73's on the street. Just ask SRZ which gears he put back in his Z28. :D
And personally, I always wished I had 3.73's with the stock trans but an MN12 5th and 6th gear. That would have made the perfect Fbody street car setup in my opinion (unless you're running a lot of dig runs).

A plus to 4.10s, is that even with the mn12, you will gain fifth as a power gear. Id do 4.10s for all out racing be it track or highway.... 3.73s if he wants a cruiser. Even with bolt ons, 4.10s will make fifth a power gear. My buddies bolt on camaro would pull my old bolt on gto (pre ls6 cam) to the end of fourth, he would shift fifth and it was like he hit the brakes. I would just roll by him. He changed to 4.10s. Pulled to the end of fourth, and kept pulling on me all the way through fifth. And he only made 335whp (12.1 at 114) then. The t/a has a small enough cam where it prob makes more low and mid range tq then a stock cam. I vote 4.10s... but my toy car is never my daily driver so to each his own i guess. But cant go wrong with 3.73s either.

TFS 215s, a Fast 102, your cam, and 4.10s... would make a stout snappy torque monster. Would be pretty badass if you ask me. Should also step to an aluminium flywheel and ds if you dont already have one.

With 3.73's and my 27" tires, 4th topped out around 140 or a touch higher, which is plenty for racing around here. If we lived out west I'd probably like the idea of a useable 5th gear that could get me to 160+, but not in New England.

Well tire size changes things. Most guys on the street dont leave the factory 25.8 drag radial. With 3.73s, theres really not a lot of mph room for rolls which is why i like the idea of fifth being a power gear. And in our races with use and the V, i was rounding 150mph. It comes up quick in the heat of the moment lol

Thanks for the advice psm! I think i will go with 373 gears since i don't go to the track, i just street race starting around 35-45 miles hour.
