Default Does This LS1 Sound Healthy?

There's this car for sale, but it's quite a distance from me and I would have to fly to go see it/get it. He posted a video with the ad. It's a little windy but you can really hear the ticking/tapping in the beginning. I don't have much LS experience but I have heard they are noisy. Can you tell if this is abnormal?

this second one sounds like just a belt?

imo sounds pretty healthy to me, just might need a belt and a fresh pulley (or grease the bearings) and would sound pretty great.
I'm no expect though, and i'm just going from what i heard in the video.

Didn't watch the video, but I will say, if it is at a distance a flight is required, I would pass if you have to question anything about it.

There are many more ls1 cars out there. It took me 2 solid years of searching to find one I liked that wasn't dogged out.

Just ask the guy if he can put up a better clip without all the wind noise, that's not too much to ask. If he says no, then I'd pass on that car.

The wind kind of took over the sound but the tapping in the 2nd video didn't sound normal.

uhhg..I wish I was more familiar with the ls1. All I know is what I've read that some tapping is normal but it should go away when warmed up, but I don't know what is a lot and what is "some". I'll have to find a local member to meet up with and check out their car I guess.

Thanks.

the second video sounded like rod knock not a lifter. I would be done looking at that car if it was me.

Go with your gut feeling.

It could just be the quality of the camera, but that didn't sound quite right.

The tapping you're talking about is piston slap, which is common on these vehicles on cold starts. Ask him for a cold start video, then a warm/hot start and see if it goes away.

The sound can vary from car to car. When I was looking for another LS1, I started a TA and I knew right away it had more piston slap (or possibly something else) than normal. It didn't go away at all after 5 minutes of idiling so I left without a second glance.

I agree with an above post...Thing is not a 1969 camaro or a 1970 Chevelle...There are tons of these 4th gens out there. Find one local! You will be much happier!

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep looking. I think I'm not giving myself enough credit, I'm probably mechanically intuitive enough to know what will be too much noise when seeing the car in person and whether or not it doesn't go away after warming up.
