cam swap finished - the results
Well i finished my first cam swap some weeks ago and want to share the results.
Maybe this helps someone to find the right cam because it's a rather unusual cam.
The goal was a emission legal, stealth cam that makes good mid to high rpm power with everything stock except a 3"Catback and a out of the box Diablosport tune.
After lot of reading and help from ls1tech members, i ordered this custom grind cam from Texasspeed:
CompCams XE 216/226 .569/.571lift @116lsa ICL 114
(IVO -6 BTDC, EVC -5 ATDC, IVC 42 ABDC, EVO 51 BBDC)
Did the install and made this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z35r-8NpLbs
..Made 2nd Place in a Race and wondered why i was not faster (clutch?
..Dynoed 460 SAE-HP Engine (~390rwhp) @6500rpm and 404ftlbs @5000rpm first Run
..and smoked the Clutch in the 2nd run
Limiter was set to 6500 on the dyno but it did not reach the peak power…so even more is possible.
Low rpm torque increased just a little but from 4000rpm it goes like hell… (Graph attached)
I like the cam its stealthy, easy driveable, not too hard on the valvesprings, and it makes more power as i expected.
Is it a save to rev past 6500rpm with a cam only LS1? What's the Limit for stock bottom End?

You could bump the rev limiter up 6700, but I wouldn't go any higher then that.
Another option is to advance the cam 2-3* more, that will move the power band down a couple hundred rpm into a more useable range.
Is that injector noise or valvetrain noise...?
The XE lobes should be very quiet so you shouldn't really be getting any noise.
BTW, Excellent video...!

Since no one else is chiming in..... 130hp increase from a tiny cam without headers on the car???????? 390 rwhp ????????? That must have been one HAPPY dyno.

setup
it made ~285-290rwhp before so it's a 100hp increase.
But don't forget hp is a function of torque an rpm, a cam that makes torque in high rpm range will more easily result in high hp.
Old setup: 3" Catback, K&N Filter nothing else.
Current setup: 3" Catback, K&N Filter, magnaflow cat, cam & valvesprings, tune, and i tried to port my TB slightly.
Car has the LS6 intake and 241 Heads, stock exhaust manifold, stock y-pipe...
and yes it was one happy dyno
The noise in the video is valvetrain noise i think, but it in real it sounds just like stock...

Yeah you never know how exactly the audio will turn out, good to hear it sounds better in person. FYI, consider replacing the y-pipe merger and a short section of the driveside pipe the goes into it, that should free up a little bit of power and not conflict with emission checks, also 3.90 or 4.11 gears would work great with that cam.

Awesome video! My car is in the process of a heads cam swap and will hopefully be done this week! Wish I could get a video of everything being done. Would have done it myself but don't have the time.
