por 15 yes no other?? hey yall ive been hearing alot of mixed reviews about por 15. i was planning on applying it over stripped clean metal. some people clame that it wont stick to any thing but rusty metal. i was just wondering if any one has used it and what do you think about it?

I've painted slightly rusty metal, and bare metal with that stuff and it works great. Whats really nice is you can apply it with a brush (those foam sponge type brushes work better) and when it dries it shows no brush marks and is very shiny. I painted my 12-bolt rearend, my hood hinges, door hinges, firewall, and crank pulley for the '69 with gloss black POR15. A little goes a very long way.

POR 15 makes a Metal Prep for new metal to make POR 15 stick. GREAT STUFF!!!

I put silver POR 15 under the hood when I did the WIRE mod. I welded the holes up that were left over the applied the POR15 on bare metal after prepping. Very Glossy. Looks ok to me. I will be painting the engine bay black when I pull the motor and get the paint done so it's not imperative it look perfect at this point.
The stuff sucks to work with in my opinion. It was cold and dry out so it took forever to set-up so I got alot of dust particles in it. It adhered just fined to prepped bare metal. I used 80grit discs on my pneumatic grinder to remove the paint.
BTW: Eastwood (a sponsor) sells a rust inhibiting paint that is a direct competitor to POR15. Some magazine articles I have read (one of them is available on Eastwoods site) rated it as better than POR15.

While it doesn't "require" very much prep the manufacturer *strongly* recommends using their their marine clean and metal-ready before applying the product.
These products are included in their kits.Which is what I used.

Yeah...sorry- I meant you use the brake cleaner & mineral spirits to remove the oil...
