Finally blew up my rear (pictures in thread) No sounds or symptoms of imminent failure. Rear was fine til yesterday. I even got a nice 50mph corner exit (with very minimal and managable drift) out of a 15mph turn less than a minute before the failure. I got onto a freeway onramp, eased into wot in 1st with some spin. Instead of a wheel chirp into 2nd, I heard like a loud metallic pop and crunchy, grinding scraping noises. I let the car coast to a stop on the freeway shoulder and found gear oil pouring out. Below are the first phone pictures. Will upload some quality pictures later.
It looks like the cover was just destroyed (along with the diff). Is it possible to replace it with a good road racing diff and a new diff cover or should I expect to have to replace more ?

opened it up and took more pictures
looks like 2 bolts let go and bounced around only the left side of the ring. bolts tore up the diff cover, scuffed up the carrier and looks like minor dings on the inside of the axle housing.
the worm gears, ring gear and the pinion look very clean.
i really liked this torsen, but i'm thinking im going to go with a good auburn.
so does this still look like i just need a new carrier, ring/pinion gear, bearings and diff cover???
also what gear ratio should i go with? i like the 3.23 since i'm not too bad on gas on the highway, but i could use more acceleration up top if it doesn't come with too many side effects. this car rarely sees the drag strip.

of the pic of the 2 bolt heads,one looks like a ring gear bolt and one like a torsen cover cap bolt.

you mite be able to find a whole rear end for under $200.I have the same rear for sale in MN,where do you live ?if the all the teeth look good maybe you can file flat the areas on the diff and install new bolts.

carrier is a little more dinged up than i'm comfortable with, so i'm probably going to switch to an auburn racers and 3.73 gearing (along with new diff cover and all bolts/bearings in there).
after that... i had quite a few

about 107k on the rear and 7k+ hard miles with the H+C+I. i only use sticky R compound tires. i wasn't expecting it to last, just thought it would give me a warning.

I have a Torsten in mine and it did identical to yours. I launched mine hard though. Lol I thought it blew some teeth off the ring gear looking at the cover. Pulled my carrier out (keeping the bearings on the correct side), removed all my ring gear bolts (broke 2 as well)replaced them all, loctite and torqued. new cover and fluid and was on my way
