High Insurance rates in Germany?
I called today to get a qoute for a 2005 GTO and the told me it would be almost $1500 every 6 months. If I take my 2002 camaro it would be about $850 every 6 months. Is this normal?

My monthly payment was ridiculous. I was using USAA and it was 280 a month in Germany and then dropped 100 bucks when I got back to the US. But then again I had just wrecked my Camaro and had a few tickets.

we were paying $200 a month on a 2002 expedition, with USAA. Alot of the money is tied to the high minimum 7.5 million Euro's of coverage. The difference between 2 different cars is tied to the value of the cars and parts availability
If you wreck the **** out of your car, it would cost serious $$$ to keep from totaling it out, considering the cost of shipping on large parts. And i dont how you would go about shipping a broken, wrecked vehicle back to the states. USAREUR wouldn't ship it for you.
My neighbor had a 2010 Dodge Caravan and they were paying almost $350 a month with USAA.
I would try calling some German auto insurance companies up and seeing what their prices are. If the company has an office right outside a major installation, they usually have people who speak good English, to deal with the soldiers.
If you still dont like the insurance rates, just buy an older BMW. You can get a decent E36 4cylinder for a couple grand that will pass inspection, and insurance with a local german company would be dirt cheap.
