Anyone regret going with a ls motor?
Ive been around the old sbc and bbc, but lately have been looking into a 4.8 or 5.3, just something cheap. just curious if anyone here regretted it or if you hated certain parts or building one

Only thing i regret is not doing it sooner. I did like the interior sound of the LT1, but have gotten used to the LS1 now and love it! The difference in power going from an A4 LT1 to a M6 LS1 was night and day. The brakes were also noticably different

There are platforms I'd rather build on than an Fbody, but I absolutely love the LSX engines. I've been beating mine daily from 70 to 135k and it hasn't missed a bit. The power, weight, size, availability, response to mods, efficiency (mpg) and adaptability are unparalleled.
There are other motors I have interest in, like the 2jz, big block Chevy's and modular Fords, but I wouldn't trade my LSX for one of them. I'd just like to have them in addition to.
Guys that aren't used to the Gen III Chevy's are always blown away when I tell them the car ran 12s with nothing but a set of Pacesetters. That I expect to be knocking on the door of 11s with the Yank 3500 and 3.73s I've installed baffles them further. It's good stuff man.

Absolutely. Even guys who know their stuff, but haven't really delved much into the late model power plants can be ignorant of their potential. I know plenty guys who have built up very nice old school combinations who are always surprised to hear what these things can do.
What I used to love were the modular Mustang guys who would cry nitrous or cam when they'd see Fbodies drop into the 11s and 12s with simple combinations and stock engines. I remember in high school my friends brother had a cammed Z28. I had a 5.0 back then. He was telling me how he just had it on the dyno and it made around 380rwhp.
I couldn't believe it wasn't supercharged or sprayed and here I was hoping to save up enough for H/C/I and MAYBE break 300rwhp.

i have no regrets, not knocking the lt1 guys but i searched for a 98-02 camaro just for the ls motor. i have a 82 z28 with a 383 sbc also. i still dont mind running the old school motor. its a full roller motor with all the bells and whistles. plus it would spank my ls1 (on nitrous) z28 (on motor) as they sit .
