Gonna be doing an oil change soon and have been debating which synthetic oil to use. I have really been leaning towards royal purple. Its pretty pricey but i have heard good things.

Have used Mobil1 with awesome results
Used Royal Purple for about 3 years in the racecar until the Fram oil filter debacle. The filter media in the Fram was completely destroyed by its interaction with the oil. The crap from the filter coagulated on my oil pan and I haven't used Royal Purple or Fram since.
I know that everyone HATES Fram filters so I always just assumed it was the filters fault and not the oil but I wasn't and am not taking any chances.

Mobil1 here, somewhere on here they tested RP in a LS1 and at high rpms it started to break down.

After running RP in my car I got a knock 20k miles later with only 130k on it. No more RP in my car. Before I did valvesprings I would just run any 10w30 synthetic they had, now with increased spring pressure I need to up the zinc content, and probably will go with rotella t6 or something.

German Castrol is supposedly a good oil in the LT1. I believe Autozone is the only place that stocks it in the USA.

The fact you reject Fram and RP says you have learned more on the subject than average. RP can be OK for race vehicles but street wise it doesn't seem to be right has improved from where it was but still FAR more marketing than substance.
I really wonder how many engines Fram has killed and never been blamed for. Might survive in a commuter car but the additional stresses of a performance vehicle do demand a tougher construction. Oil flow is directly tied to engine rpm, my wife's car almost never sees 4000rpm, where a performance car will see 6500+rpm lot more flow and pressure trying to pull things apart. I have no issues with even the plastic core Delcos but haven't run a fram in more than a decade.
M1 is fine but if you see anyone swearing it is the greatest thing ever then you can be sure they didn't research it any further than marketing and what the Vette oil cap says. That is NOT directed at quik95lt1 he said good not claiming it is magical as MANY will.

I wonder if the new Castrol Edge Titanium oils are any good. I was at Autozone the other day to take advantage of one of their oil & filter deals, and Edge Titanium is more expensive than German Castrol.

Mobil1 I agree isn't a a magic bullet by any means but around me it's relatively cheap and readily available and just as you said good enough.

I am a private dealer for a certain oil company so I get alot of training on types of oil and their abilities/results.
My wifes 94 Impala SS had 170k on it before this last teardown with alot of track runs. It was absolutely perfect inside. I only tore it down due to a blown head gasket after a nitrous run. It's had Mobil 1 since new.
The 3 best synthetics out there are Amsoil, Mobil 1 & Brad Penn.
I will tell you Royal Purple absolutely sucks. Marketing hype is their big seller.

In my 4.7L Jeep Grand Cherokee, German Castrol outperformed the Mobil1 and Amsoil variants that I used. I've also heard it's a very good oil for the LT1.
You can always go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and obsess with all of the other oil nuts. At the end of the day, and assuming it's just every day type of use, you'll probably be fine with any decent oil and filter assuming you change it regularly.
