Cool Installed decals for rear of car

I thought this looked boring...

...so I ordered some decals!

Before the "bird" symbol and "Trans Am" logo were in red and the "PONTIAC" letters were unfilled and white just like the rest of my car.

So first I put white decals over the red "Trans Am" logo.

And then I added white decals over the red "bird" symbol.

And lastly (for now) filled in the "PONTIAC" letters with black decals.

All done!

Even my wife likes the outcome! I'll put black decals on my white car for the "ram air" and the "PONTIAC" letters on the driver's side headlight door and the "Trans Am" letters on the doors. This was a slightly aggravating to do but I am 99% happy with the outcome. Getting those little decals on the "bird" was hard and time consuming. Luckily we can slide them around a tiny bit after applying them if we wet the clean surface of the car with soapy water beforehand. More pictures to come.

I think it looks a lot better. That's how the car should have came from the factory.

I like it too, but I've never been a big fan of showing off the Pontiac on the headlight cover. It should be shaved off or left alone IMO.

Cool

Thanks for the compliments! Really the compliments need to go to Shawn at http://www.fourthcircledesigns.com/ because he made the decals for me.

Here are two detailed pictures. The "PONTIAC" letters were a tiny bit smaller than the grooves in the rear bumper cover by about 1 or 2 mm so this gave me some room to play with. We can see the "bird" is not covered up 100% but that is only noticeable if we are squatting behind the car with our face less than 1 foot away.

I think GM leaves these things out so that the dealers can add them as a pinstriping package - along with the other things they sell to us at the last minute such as ScotchGuard on the seats, tar on the underside of the car, and extended warranties.

I agree. The car already says Pontiac on the rear end and says Firebird, Formula, or Trans Am on the doors. I think most people could figure out that it is a Pontiac without advertising it on the driver's side headlight door too. Does Chevy do it to their pre-C6 Corvettes? Hell, even my Impala SS doesn't even say "Chevrolet" anywhere on the outside; the only clue that it is from GM is the Chevy bowtie on the front grill. By the way GM screwed this one up too by using silver bowties. Mine is red, much better looking than silver.

I bought the whole set including the "ram air" decals for the hood so I can change them from charcoal grey to black.
  • The set with the "ram air" is $33. (This is what I chose and the amount I paid. I also bought decals for my wheels because I have 10-spoke Camaro SS silver painted wheels and wanted to change the red Chevy bowtie on the centercaps. The total for everthing was a bit over $50.)
  • The set without the "ram air" is $29.
  • The "PONTIAC" letters alone for the rear section are $8.
  • The "Trans Am" and "bird" for the piece between the tail light assemblies is $10.
Shipping is 2 day Priority Mail, cost $1.

These are the best (i.e. easy and inexpensive) way to change the colors of things. I saw a black Trans Am and it had gold letters and "bird" on the back; it was really sharp.

In general the red looks fine because the tail lights are red, and because the red on black looks cool. On a red Firebird the red emblem on the back is fine.

But my car doesn't have anything else red on it except maybe the wheel centercaps so I wanted to change it to match the color of the car.

I've also seen some Firebirds that don't have anything on the piece between the tail light assemblies and those looked great too.

I guess it all comes down to personal perference. At first my wife blew a fuse when I told her I bought the decals. "What? You spent $50 on stickers for the car?" Then after she saw the rear of the car she agreed that it looked much better. However she is still mad about the $50 but isn't bugging me about it anymore.

Don't worry about seeing a little red on the 'Bird in the back. Mine's like that too, and I have yet to see one where everything is covered up.

Looks slick

Hey, yours looks awesome! I checked out the pictures by following the link in your signature. The silver on black really stands out! Hopefully I got the colors right, I am slightly colorblind. I guess that explains my monochrome color themes!
