79 fairmont 4.8/th400/gt45 build
Jumping on the fairmont bandwagon. picked up a 65k mile 79 fairmont 4 door.
plans for the build are a 4.8, ls6 cam, valve springs, kmj head studs, ebay gt45, rmvb th400, and a spooled 8.8. going to get the car running/driving with stock rear at first then upgrade to the 8.8 when funds are available. as of right now the car is stripped to fix rust.
found rust in the floor boards so made some patch panels but also found rust in the front rails so it will be getting 2x3 from firewall to strut tower then 1 3/4 round tube after tower and for rad support. how it sits as of today
car will go on the frame machine and be put in pinchweld clamps to build the front structure tomm. heres some of the front end parts. aje kmember, tube a arms, strange coilovers
ordered almost all of the turbo kit yesterday, was going to go with a standalone harness and truck computer but denmah has me wanting to try the ms1/6010 route even tho my only tuning experience was with the 6010 on my 6.0 notch if you wanna call that tuning experience. if this thing runs half as good as denmahs ill be happy but my goal is 550-600whp. hopfully have daily updates as ill be working on it at school.

todays progress-welded up most of the pass side, enough to move on to the drivers side
16ga from strut tower to frame rail
rail capped and 1 3/4 round to ran to factory support
welded to factory support, still have some trimming to do to clean it up
still boring rust repair, hopfully start the cool stuff soon

Ya if i was building this at home i wouldnt be using stuff like that but since i have the abilty to at school i might as well, going for collision repair but i have worked in a bodyshop for about 7 years now so im learning more doing this than bodywork. Pretty sweet my instructor is all for doing the tube work etc, it was actually his idea. And its nice he is letting me do this since its not really collision related.
