Turbo LT1 with Opti???

If you don't want to switch to a 24x them hook up a Megasquirt because then you can use 2 and 3 bar MAPs.
Megasquirt is cost effective specially if you solder it yourself. It is capable of full fuel/spark control. Also keep your Optispark.
The stock PCM uses a 1 bar MAP. You can use a 2 bar but you cut the table in half, killing your resolution.

I have never even touched a turbo much less run one BUT from talking to a few folks who have run boost sucessfully with the stock pcm and such a GOOD electronic boost controller could be a big help. If you can keep the boost consistent at various rpm points and such then the stock pcm can be made to work more easily.

Thanks for the input, very valuable. Sounds like I should be able to make it work with a good tune. I am hoping Mo Bailey is available for the tune since he about 3hrs away....worth the drive. I will also check into the MegaSquirt.
Anything else I should know or research?

Popo runs a single or twins on his lt1. He started with OBD2 but the tuner couldn't get a nice tune that he could call "drives like stock", so he swapped to OBD1, and popo says it is incredible, and I think he put like 600 to the tires. Search his thread on ltxtech.
The "guru" on megasquirt right now bar none is denmah. He has put together some outrageous builds with TONS of documentation, with write ups and tons of videos. Search turbo fairmont, his current thread is HUGE in the fi section, called 2500 silverado, but he stayed stock PCM on that build. His name is Matt and he seems to help anyone who asks.

IMO the single most impressive LTx build going is Jeff Green's 96 Impala, he has handicapped himself by sticking to a lot of near stock parts.
Has the mph to sneak into the 8s at something like 4400lbs but the 8.5" 10-bolt and 4L60E wont take the launch needed.
He uses the OBD2 pcm and a LOT of other stuff every kid wanting half the HP will tell you can't work.

From what I hear they are genuine GM optis so they can't be too bad? Maybe I'm wrong though.
