Default anyone have trouble with running a dope style cooler?

I installed my b&m 70264 dope style hoping to run my SSRA and have had the temps much higher than I'm used to seeing. with my tube/fin on the condenser id see 150-160 in traffic, but now im seeing 190+ within 15 minutes of in town driving. Has anyone else had issues with temps? I was thinking of either getting a small fan to mount on it or just move it to on the condenser again which means i cant run the ssra.

Have you driven it longer than 15 min? And if so does it just stay at 190?

IDK why your seeing temps like that Mark I have had no issues with mine so far and you know me, I drive my car 3 hrs straight sometimes.

If my cooler ends up getting hot this year in summer I will be looking into a small fan. I dont wanna give up the SSRA.

Yea ive driven more than 15 min and itll stay up there until I hop on the highway. I checked fluid and its not low or anything. I found an 8" fan on ebay I might try unless I decide to throw my old cooler in.

Mine will actually get up there too but I dont worry about it. I know our gauges read higher than most peoples and 190 is not that bad really. Like I said before its a compromise. Mine doesnt stay 190 for long anyways cause I dont take the car out in serious stop and go. Yours could run hotter than mine also. Who knows.

Airflow, airflow, airflow. Did I mention airflow?

What are your fans doing, how well can they draw
through your debris-loaded condenser and radiator,
and how much does the new cooler impede (thus
cause to bypass the fins) very low pressure airflow
at its face?

I'd try cleaning the radiator and condenser, that
yielded a whole bunch of lawn clipping type junk
last time I did it; ought to be part of everybody's
start-of-hot-weather annual hygeine.

Exactly. You still need airflow, only now you are
remote from the draw-face of the radiator. The
stack there, like a MAF screen, enforces a sort
of airflow uniformity on anything stacked against
it. Not so, "dope style", where you have the free
path on either side to "steal" air, given any excuse.
And the less raw airflow through the radiator stack,
the worse in total.

You're left with just convection then, which is not
great. And of course if the fans don't run full time,
it's convection to nowhere. The only escape path
is still through them, forced or unforced.

So I decided to mount my original big *** tube and fin cooler back on the condenser and its much better again. Took it out and beat on it for a while and saw steady 160s in town. Since I don't go to the track I could care less about the ssra at this point.

Jimmy I have a brand new condenser and newer radiator so my fans do a great job at cooling even in traffic.

I'd be curious to see what the fin & tube does, in
the "dope" position. To my eye it looks like fin & tube
has a lot more air surface and an inferior fluid surface
area; which works better in a given application kind
of depends on which you have a surplus of - air or
fluid flow.
