Exclamation Best/Cheapest LS1 Heads

Hi can anyone help.

I just found oil in my coolant reservoir which I believe is from a cracked head (though just a guess at this point). Anyways, based on this situation I was hoping someone could offer me suggestions on how I should fix the car(head, cam & intake options). I need to fix the car but in the process I wanted to take advantage of the situation and make engine much better than before, but money is tight (as this situation caught me off guard). Essentially, its a daily driver, which I drive to out of state cruise events and race tracks, so I need it to be extremely reliable, offer similar gas mileage and more powerful (however money is a very real factor)

Thanks in advance,

Best-78 answers on that one.

Cheapest-probably some stock 241 heads. Milled, port n polish...viola. A decent head, relatively cheap and will support 425rwhp.

Agree with all of the above. "Ported" 241's for the swap, or ported 243's for the upgrade.

Probably getting a set of 241's ported but after you get that done from a reputable shop you might as well go get some cnc'd 243 style'd head from a Vendor. Either way unless you know someone or diy your looking at at least a grandish.

You can probably find the 243 casting LS6 heads in a junk yard and get them freshened up. They can be found on lots of 5.3 truck engines. They do not have the sodium filled valves like the original LS6 heads, but otherwise they should be very similar.

If you want NEW heads for a low cost check out Patriot Performance. You can perform a search for their web site. All new parts.

You are describing the 799 heads. Thats a good cheap upgrade. Its basically a 243 head without the sodium valves. Another option are the 317 heads. They can be had for 150 bucks on here, then just get them milled and change the springs.
