The best place to start is usually the suspension. You can have all the power in the world but it's useless without traction. If you have stock parts, depending on mileage, you may need to replace your shocks/springs already (personal recommendation is bilstein shocks (which you have), with Strano springs. After that, sub frame connectors should be your next step. As said before though, the search will help you find all the answers to your questions.

I agree with arock24 cars that old have suspension parts that will be worn.
But the first thing you should do is get some seat time before trying to play "Speed Racer". It seems like every week there is a thread that has the line "I was just going...." and now they have a parts car.

Start with basics. Make sure everything is in good working order. Get used to the car first. A lid, longtubes, and tune help out a lot. If it's a M6 then a good aftermarket shifter and rear gear go a long way.
