Default Super Budget square body swap

I am officially done with fourth gens. not sure why but i cant seem to not buy one and now that i sold my SS i can start fresh with a swap. i already considered buying a 99+ chevy with the motor in it but ive always been into C10s. now before the flames are thrown, i really wanted a 67-72. the only trucks in my budget were rusty long beds with alot of problems and personally if im gonna spend 5k+ i would rather get a newer truck. so looks like my only option was a 73-87. i wanted to stick with the 81-87 because they have the better interiors and nicer front ends. i decided to go super cheap because i was gonna be replacing alot of stuff anyway. looking back I should have bought one that was on the road and the swap would have been easier. Picked up a decent 87 stepside for dirt out of a guys front yard. Found a 2004+ 4.8 on CL for 150 complete with accessories. I used a trans from my 2000 trans am I parted out a while back as well as some other stuff (fans, intake, throttle body, PCM, and waterpump). My apts were being a PITA and towed it so I had to get it going quickly so I wasn't very neat or thorough the first time. Now that it is all legal I tore it all back down and did it right. I finished this swap for less than $3000 including the HPTuners, Vig stall and Autometer gauges. Pics coming asap

Here it is when it was thrown together quick. Ran great and was very quick for a stock 4.8.

Motor came out. Stall went in

Painted the engine bay and dropped the motor back in.

Autometer gauges

Harness is in and it's about 90% assembled. Just gotta finish the wiring and should be on the road soon.

Cool truck.

I think those cold air kits should be about half the price because it seems to be the one everyone uses for swaps. I even have one on one of my cars.

I just bought the 45 aluminum bend from summit. I already had the 90 and filter. I need to get another 4" coupler because I have the filter rtv'd to the MAF

I think I wired the CMP or CKP wrong. No injector pulse or spark.

nice work on a tight budget! I like the stepside look too! Get her up and lets see a burnout vid!

On a technical question, did you relocate the standard belt tensioner to the location between the PS and alt? I do not think I have ever seen a set up like that! Nice job fitting the old AC compressor in there!

Thanks for the info.

I found out my oil pump is dead so I gotta strip it down and replace it. Oil pressure is great on cold start but after about fifteen minutes idling it will drop dead to about 5 psi.

I used the Holley bracket. It uses a Corvette tensioner. I used a Dirty Dingo idler relocate bracket. Thanks I'm bummed I gotta tear it back down to install the oil pump. It ran excellent before but it was so ugly.

Sorry to hear. Make sure the O ring at the pump pickup is fully seated and isn't torn.
