Default Best headers for MY application

This isn't your run of the mill best headers thread. .. They're going in a 2004 Corvette.

ARH 1 7/8" or Phadt Tri-Y headers?

Heads will be Mast Motorsports 215's OR Mast small bore LS3's.

The 215's cathedral have a 1.6 exhaust valve. The small bore LS3's have a 1.57

The LS3's are small exhaust valves. That much we know from the get-go, and have what I believe to be a 240cc intake port.

The 215's have exactly that; a 215cc intake port with a 2.04 intake valve.

Any help is appreciated.

Received!!

It's just a toss-up between the two for me.

I had to edit my post as the original didn't list the correct LS3 small bore exhaust valve size. It's a 1.57

Fact of the matter is, I care more about 3500rpm and up than anything. BUT, if the tri-y will keep my low and midrange torque, but give me the benefits of the upper range...

VERY hard to find a comparison between the two.

Yeah I started to mention that, but knew that it was just a typo. Honestly every setup can be different on what it favors on exhaust and yes if a tri y is designed correctly for the motor it can make more midrange power and is why NASCAR cup motors run that design on road course over oval tracks, but I doubt you are going to find an apples to apples comparison and their mid range isn't the same as ours with a 10k rpm redline. I would opt for the smaller 1.75" primaries if you care more about midrange and grind a cam that favors it and optimizes your DCR which is ultimately going to maximize torque. Hope that helps, Chris

I just installed the New tri y 1 7/8 on my c5 and had fitment issues around the starter area and on the side exhaust shields

Did you get in touch with Phadt? I'm curious as to what they had to say about that. They claim no fitment issues...

Well, I pulled the trigger on a set of Phadt's per my builders recommendations.

1 7/8" x 2 1/8" x 3" with the offraod X. Couldn't pass up the sale price they were at.

I did do a back to back comparison of my QTP Tri-Y headers and one of the best known 4 to 1 designs (never posted it because I didn't want to start a big header war). The QTP's blew them away in the mid range and gave up nothing up top. I think you made the right choice.

PS: I sold the 4 to 1 headers and now run my QTP's. Too bad they stopped making them.

Nice to see you chime in here, brother.

Yeah, I've heard exactly that from a few guys now... It just solidifies my decision. I'm hoping to install them possibly this weekend.

BTW, do you happen to know what primary sizes you have? The step and all?

They are 1-3/4 as I recall but I bought them almost 10 years ago and QTP no longer has the specifications on their web site. They work well but the Pfadt headers seem to be a better design with less welding from the photos I have seen. The QTP's were more expensive to fabricate so they coudn't compete, plus the Dynomax came out shortly after QTP introduced their headers and the lower entry price didn't help. I am glad to see that Pfadt has developed a nice product for the C5 as vendors tend to cater to the latest car production (now the C7) for their R&D work. If I ever have to replace my QTP's it would be a no brainer for me to go with the 1-7/8 Pfadts.
