Default Pin on hood

I'm looking at the VFN 4" cowl at 15lbs
Any better choices out there?

Thank you,

Will LS1 base and lid fit under the 4" glasstek?

You'll have to do some cutting. The cowl area isn't open enough and the lid base I had didn't clear. I think someone on here said theirs fit no problem.

Thank you

Do you mean I'll cut the car or the hood?
I've read all the lt1 to ls1-lid stock hood installs, and am hoping to not have to butcher the front end that badly...

If you want to put an LS1 lid/base on your car without cutting, call up VFN and order the Sunoco Wide bolt-on, and tell them you want it modified like Butch and I have. Both of our hoods were done within weeks of each other and they both clear with no issues. I use a lid/base combo from a Z28 that I got used. I'll have to check and see if I have any pics of it on the car before the hood went on though...

Thanks man
I'd like a pin-on and like the rib the glasstek has in the cowl.

I guess I wait some more

IIRC you can order the Sunoco with a ridge in the center, and as a pin on. If you do the pin on, you can tell them to make sure it will clear like ours as well. It may not even be an issue with the pin on depending on how they do the bracing underneath. I'm local to both so it's easy for me to run over there if I have problems, so I'd recommend calling and talking to them before you jump on anything.

I had a bolt on so it might be different. I had to trim the hood so the beginning of the cowl area was a bit wider. I had to trim the lid base down but I might have had a ram air lid setup or something like that. It seemed a little taller than normal.

VFN Sunoco I did 4 pins from autozone. done. I am more of a fan of a subtle cowl but to each their own.

That looks great!
I think that may have convinced me. Plus I hear they can make them to clear the LS1 lid.

Thank you

Edit: Any pics of the pin install? Looks way easier then messing with dzus rails.

It was MUCH easier. I even ordered the dzus rails and hardware because I was so set on doing the dzus. well over $150 later The dzus rails and hardware are still sitting in the packaging in my garage and I went to autozone for $20 and got hood pins install was 15 mins. I do not have pics but I might be able to get them for you.

Keep in mind in those pics the hood isnt even painted yet. Still looks great.

How much more weight does the pin on save over the VFN bolt on?
Anyone know?

Thank you Bolo for your PM's

I just talked to Jeanie over at VFN she was very helpful.

For the pin on sunoco wide hood they don't have to do anything special, it will fit the LS1 lid!

For the bolt on sunoco wide they modify some of the bracing underneath to clear the LS1 lid, but the actual hood is not changed in any way it's the same mold.

I'm leaning towards pin on for weight, unless some bolt on guys can chime in if it's better to go that way... I've never had a pin on hood before so I'm not sure how annoying or fun it will be
