Default Buying a 99 Z28 roller, want to make sure its legit!

I found a camaro roller local to me. There is NO engine or trans. in the car and it had an interior swap done. I wanna trust the seller but I just want to make sure the was WAS originally a 99 Z28 before I spend my hard earned cash. Sence the interior was swaped I figured the vin could have been swaped at the same time to the newer vin. The vin matched the clean title. And I can get the shell for a pretty reasonable price. and its a fairly low mile shell on top of that.

Are there any clues I could look for that would tell me? It has a power steering rack in it and I thought they were different between the early and later ones, Would a metal fuel tank be a dead givaway that could be an early car? The last thing I want is to find out its an older lt1 car once I start putting it back together. Or am I just being a freak about it??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

97 and before have different headlights, there inset
More Z28's were built than SS's. The main difference is the hood, spoiler, wheels. The SS cars got a different air lid, catback, as well as suspension pieces.

Forgot to mention. The car is missing the whole nose. Hood bumper fenders lights ect. And it has early lt1 wheels on it. The seller told me they were just rollers when he ensured me that it was infact an ls1 car.

In the 93-02 Camaros

The 93-96 have the same interior.
The 93-97 have the same headlights.

The 97-02 have the same interior.
The 97-02 have the same taillights.

This is from the fact that every 97 I see same the new 4th gen interior and the amber turn light on the tail lights. Again every 97 I see also has the old headlights.

Will pay better attention to the tail lights next time I see it. I have no head lights to go by. Also forgot the sticker in the door jamb when I was looking at it. And see if its got a plastic fuel tank.

The whole thing is with running the vin is. I am not sure if the original vin could have been swaped durring the interior swap from black to tan by one of the previous owners.

I may just go for it. The car is pretty clean other than the fact that its missing alot of crap. Even if it was a pre ls1 car it will still need all the stuff that would be needed to put an ls1 in any earlyer fourth gen anyways. Its not like its gonna be a real desirable pristine car anyways. Lol

An LT1 car would have a rectangular hole in the driver side strut tower for the fuel lines to pass through.

If the rad support has a flat spot for the air lid the 98+ cars have then you have a 98+ roller. If it does not look like it has a provision for the air lid on the rad support then it is a 97 and down. Also the LT1 shells have a hole for the fuel lines that run up through the driver's side strut tower.

If you are curious as to if there is a VIN mismatch remove the weather stripping on the passenger side A pillar. The last 8 of the VIN is stamped in the sheetmetal it is imprinted in reverse and will look funny until you look at it using a mirror. If the VINS don't match then you have problems and you can compare the VIN stored in the pcm while not alway's a dead ringer with as many of us have swapped pcm's through the years it may bring some peace of mind if match's as well.
