check your belts, other than that change out the coolant, its a messy job but not too hard might need a set of extra hands, good luck

What pump you get? I had to change my Bosh water pump that went 120k, sound great right? But the inlet where the top hose connects to was corroded, funny as corroded as it was it didn't lead there but i did remove a lot of crude and metal shaving from the hoses cause of the corroded pump. I went with a autozone pump cause low on funds and good or bad am only leaving this pump on for 50k, i recommend get a gm pump, my original didn't corrod as this one did.

This is one of the easiest things to do on the car. It's just messy. (as noted above)

You should change the thermostat and should look at addressing the power steering cooler, if you have one installed on your '98.

Cool...thanks for all the input. I just asked in case there was something I should also do while I had it off. I did it on my lt1 and hated life!

Even though they are much more coin, the Evans pump for the LSxes is pretty stout since they upgrade the bearings/seals over what the factory/new GM/Delco part has installed, also a higher flow/higher quality impeller.

But yes, you DO pay for it over even a brand spanking new AC Delco/Delphi/GMB/whatever.

I'll second this. Might as well get everything done while the system is empty. I'd also replace the lower hose as well if it's original.
